Europe Travel Alert – APRIL

APRIL — Europe Travel Alert Travel Insurance Coverage Position Statement

Posted: 06/03/2016

On Tuesday, May 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of State issued a Travel Alert informing Americans traveling to Europe of the risk of potential terrorist attacks this summer.

What you need to know about your APRIL policy:

For new policyholders:

As of 6/2, the Europe Travel Alert has not resulted in a terrorist attack. You may still purchase an APRIL policy for upcoming trips to Europe.

For current policyholders:

As of 6/2, the Europe Travel Alert has not resulted in a terrorist attack and, therefore, the provisions of the policies remain unchanged. There is no coverage for travel losses due to this alert.

If the Travel Alert does result in a terrorist attack, as deemed by the U.S. Department of State, the loss needs to meet the following criteria for coverage:

Criteria:

  • APRIL policy must have been purchased prior to the date of the terrorist attack
  • The terrorist attack must occur on or after the Effective Date of the policy
  • The event must be deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Department of State
  • Meet the policy’s Terrorism triggers for Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption coverage:

Trip Cancellation / Economy / VIP / Universal Annual / Elite Annual plans:

· The terrorist attack must occur within 30 days of your departure and within 50 miles of a city listed on your itinerary.
· Attack results in the complete cessation of travel services at the point of departure or destination for at least 48 consecutive hours.

Choice plan:
