Hurricane Fred has strengthened in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean near the Cape Verde Islands.  Fred was located about 45 miles east-southeast of Ribeira Brava in the Cape Verde Islands as of late Monday morning.  Top sustained winds had increased to 85 mph, making Fred a Category 1 hurricane.

Strong winds and heavy rainfall are likely as Fred moves through the Cape Verde Islands Monday into early Tuesday morning.  A hurricane warning has been issued for the Cape Verde Islands and this is likely the first hurricane warning on record issued there.  Fred will weaken later this week in the open Atlantic Ocean and is no threat to the Caribbean or the United States.  Customers are strongly encouraged to read their Description of Coverage or Insurance Policy for details regarding their available coverage.  For plans that do offer coverage for adverse weather and natural disasters, please note that there is no coverage for this specific storm under any plans purchased on or after August 31, 2015.  Please contact CSA Travel Protection with questions.
