Am I covered to cancel if I get sick while traveling in the Dominican Republic?

Last Updated:

Yes, travel insurance policies with Trip Interruption coverage can cover you to cut your trip short and return home early if you become sick during your trip in the Dominican Republic.

The most common covered reason for Trip Interruption is an illness or injury of a traveler, their family member, or a traveling companion. In this case, Trip Interruption can reimburse up to 200% of your unused prepaid and nonrefundable trip expenses, including your airfare, hotel accommodations, tours, and excursions. This benefit covers more than 100% of your trip cost because it can also cover additional transportation expenses incurred for you to return home.

In order for coverage to be available, you must provide medical records from a legally licensed physician advising against travel. To be covered, you must also provide receipts to prove your losses.

Please note, alcohol-related illnesses or injuries are always excluded by travel insurance. If your medical records state that alcohol was involved, your claim will not be covered.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
