If you currently have a travel insurance policy for your trip:
Your coverage is not affected by the Europe Travel Alert.
The travel alert is not a covered reason to cancel your trip to France. You can only cancel your trip for a specific reason listed on your travel insurance policy, such an act of terrorism. Canceling because of a travel alert would be considered canceling due to fear of a possible terrorist attack, which is not a standard covered reason.
If your policy includes the Cancel for Any Reason upgrade, you may be covered to cancel your trip for reasons other than those stated in your policy, such as fear of a possible terrorist attack. The Cancel for Any Reason upgrade will reimburse up to 75% of your total trip cost and requires that you cancel your trip at least 2-3 days prior to your scheduled departure date.
If a terrorist attack occurs at your destination within a certain number of days of your departure, you may be covered to cancel your trip under the Terrorism benefit. The terrorist act must be declared terrorism by the U.S. Department of State to qualify for coverage.
If you do not currently have a travel insurance policy for your trip:
Coverage is still available despite the Europe Travel Alert. You can still buy a travel insurance policy with full coverage, including Terrorism coverage, for your upcoming trip to France.
A travel alert does not affect the availability of travel insurance. However, a travel insurance policy must be purchased before a terrorist attack occurs in order to provide coverage for the attack.
