What if the school year is extended and I have to cancel my trip?

The coronavirus pandemic has forced school closures across the United States, causing concern that schools may need to extend the school year. If If you are unable to take a pre-planned trip because of an unexpected school year extension, some policies may provide Trip Cancellation coverage.

Depending on the policy, the Trip Cancellation benefit may cover you for 100% of your prepaid and non-refundable trip expenses if you are cannot take a pre-planned trip because of a school year extension beyond the predefined dates for the school year. Policies with this coverage can refund travelers expenses for airline tickets, hotels, cruises, excursion and tours, among others.

This cancellation coverage can be triggered if the school year is extended through a holiday break, or if the school year runs into the summer.
