Turks and Caicos Travel Insurance Requirements

Turks and Caicos has remained open for tourists amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and a quarantine is not required upon arrival. However, all travelers visiting Turks and Caicos must have a travel insurance policy with coverage for Covid-19 in order to gain entry.

Every traveler visiting Turks and Caicos is required to complete a health screening questionnaire and must provide a negative Covid-19 PCR test within 5 days of their arrival to the islands.

In addition to this, each traveler must have a travel insurance policy that meets the following coverage requirements:

  • Emergency Medical coverage for Covid-19, including general medical costs, hospitalizations, doctor visits, prescription
  • Medical Evacuation coverage in the event an air ambulance is required

Squaremouth’s Travel Insurance Recommendations

Medical travel insurance benefits are the most important pieces to look for when buying travel insurance for a trip to Turks and Caicos. While these benefits are required to gain entry into Turks and Caicos, there is not a set amount that is needed.

In this case, Squaremouth recommends travelers buy a policy that meets our recommended medical coverage for international travel. A policy that meets these requirements will include at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage, and at least $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage.

Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation are separate benefits. Emergency Medical can reimburse travelers for the cost of treatment during their trip, such as hospital fees and physician services. Medical Evacuation can cover the cost of an evacuation to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency.

In addition to these required benefits, Squaremouth recommends a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes other benefits for the most common travel insurance concerns. Primarily, this includes Trip Cancellation coverage and Medical Evacuation coverage.

For travelers who are concerned about losing their prepaid trip expenses if they need to cancel their trip to Turks and Caicos, Squaremouth recommends insuring these costs through the Trip Cancellation benefit. This benefit can reimburse 100% of a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip costs if they need to cancel for a covered reason, such as not being able to travel because they are sick with Covid-19 or another illness.
