Had to change policy after trip dates and location were altered out of our control. Update process was easy. Not sure if I talked to April or Square mouth customer service

My policy was for trip cancellation and not trip interruption , so i had no claim.

Aegis policy: Go Ready Trip Cancellation

We were unable to travel for health reasons. A claim was filed with April by mail. They were contacted to ensure they had received the claim and they have. They are in process of evaluating the claim which, according to their customer service, requires 30 business days. We will be able to provide more information after the claim is fully evaluated and our refund is provided.

My husband and I travel frequently; we are older, but have never yet filed a claim. Due to a fall shortly prior to our trip, we were unable to travel. The customer assistance at April was very good in terms of getting the documentation to me. I needed to call once for clarification; someone answered and was very helpful. Our claim was completed and in the hands of the company about a month after the incident. Within 3 weeks April had reviewed the claim and covered fully our losses. We have learned via email that a check is to be issued and received shortly.

Aegis policy: Go Ready Trip Cancellation

All I wanted was Hurricane Insurance, when Hurricane Michael was obviously going to hit Kure Beach, just south of Wilmington, I called to check on the policy and to find out the actual circumstances required for the policy to pay. I called twice, talked to two different people, both told me my policy would not cover a hurricane. They said I had trip interruption insurance....I said I do not know what that means but when I called and bought the policy I told the representative that I cared nothing for cancellation due to illness, death, job loss, etc I just want coverage in case a named hurricane was going to 'interrupt' our stay.... One representative said she was going to go back to the date I bought the policy and listen to the taped conversation. Doubtful that she did, she never called back. A few days later when it was announced that just to the south of the Wilmington area there was a mandatory evacuation I called again.......this time the representative told me I had 'trip cancellation' insurance and that I could cancel for any reason???? OK so just how confident would you have been filing a claim with this company???? I called the rental agency, who got in touch with the owner of the rental on our behalf and worked something out that was satisfactory. Yes I could have cancelled our reservation, filed a claim, and your company may or may not have paid but under the circumstances I wasn't willing to risk losing $3300. I wasn't willing to take that chance. Next October I will be renting the same house, the same $3300, and will once again attempt to buy 'hurricane insurance' ..........I wonder if there is an insurance company that can weed through all the legal mumbo jumbo in the policy to simplify it enough so that the general public can REALLY know what they are buying because relying upon representatives to tell you what you have is dicey at best!

    Response from Aegis

We thank Barbara for choosing APRIL.
We identified two calls made by Barbara to our APRIL Customer Service team, one and two days prior to her scheduled departure date. Barbara was informed on both calls that the policy she purchased was for Trip Cancellation only and that the natural disaster triggers under this plan may provide reimbursement provided that she cancels her covered trip prior to or on his/her scheduled departure date. Based on a tentative scenario described by the client, she was reiterated by our agents that her plan does not grant coverage for Trip Interruption. Prior to contacting us, the client had spoken to her rental property company about their independent insurance plan. This rental property company is not affiliated with APRIL.

Barbara was contacted by our APRIL Account Manager on 10/18/16 following the receipt of this review. She informed our Account Manager that her trip was rescheduled prior to her departure to April of 2017 due to hurricane Matthew. Our Account Manager requested the new travel itinerary for a one-time exception to update the original travel dates to 2017, but no reply.

    Aegis policy: VIP Plan

I'd heard about Squaremouth and decided to try it when planning a family trip that included my parents as well as my in laws. The site allowed me to do feature comparisons with other top travel plans, including cost. I found the perfect plan to settle my worried mind even though we didn't have to, thankfully, put it to use.

We have return from our trip on 9/27/16 and we called April insurance on 3- occasion requesting a claim form. Each time April said, "they will e-mail the claim forms and we have not received the forms as of 10/3/16." April have verified our e-mail address & no claim forms yet. This doesn't look good on April's customer service. Plan to call Squaremouth about the matter.

    Review Updated: 11/06/2016

We contacted April USA for their claim forms 4-times. For the first 3-attempts by phone starting on 9/28/16, they said they will e-mail the claim form but we never received the e-mail form by e-mail. On the 4th attempt, we finally received the e-mailed claim form as we were getting very discouraged & dissatisfied. We started to call Squaremouth about the claim form problem. On October 4, we received the claim form finally from April USA.

We faxed the 19 page documents labelled every page our policy and case file #'s including the completed/signed claim form to April, USA on October 17, 2016.
April USA did send an e-mail on 10/17/16 that they received the faxed 19-pages of documents.

Also, we sent the 19-pages of documents including the the completed claim form by certified mail with signature required to April USA on 10/17/16. On October 21, we received an e-mail from April USA that our completed claim form was processed and approved. It was a fast turn around. One reason for the fast turn around, the documents faxed to April, USA was thorough, labelled and complete as what April USA requested.

On October 29, we received 2-checks. Again, it was a fast turn around. One check for the emergency room bill and another check for our out-of-pocket reimbursements. All in all, we are very satisfied and we would use April USA again.
