Don't buy iTravelInsured if you expect prompt claims service! We had to cancel a trip to Fiji when I had surgery for an ankle injury. Although this was a very straightforward cancellation claim where we requested refunds for only two airlines and two resorts, it took 2 months for iTravelinsured to process it. They did pay in full so I gave them 2 stars, but the hassles, constant delays, and uncertainty over whether our claim would be paid were unacceptable. I've dealt with several other travel insurance companies over the years and all were better than iTravelinsured. My impression is that they are very understaffed and that the travel insurance business is just a sideline to their medical insurance business. Here are some examples of their slow service. USPS delivered our claim documents on May 3, but iTravelinsured didn't even log them in as "received" until May 9, and didn't request medical records from my doctor until May 30. At that time they also sent a letter requesting additional documentation from me regarding not receiving refunds on nonrefundable airline tickets even though I had provided copies of ticket receipts showing that they were not refundable and had submitted a signed affidavit with the original claim stating that we would not be using the tickets. So I faxed more copies of the original documents with a new cover letter pointing out that "nonrefundable" meant that no refunds would be issued, and that did the trick. All I could find out through repeated phone calls with long hold times (they don't send emails) was that our claim was "being processed", until finally on June 26 it was completed and I was told it would be paid. We finally got the checks on July 9. During the process I had to submit over 25 pages of documents (not counting the medical records), good thing I have a FAX. I bought the ITravelinsured policy because it cost about 10% less than comparable policies that covered scuba diving, but I won't make that mistake again.

I shopped around and found this to be the best value for the money. Purchasing online was easy and when I had a question prior to the trip, getting in touch with a representative on the phone was quick and easy.

I needed to add coverage to my policy. It should have been simple but it wasn't. A request needed to be made via email (not by telephone,) wait for approval, and give out credit card information. I had to do this twice. Very inconvenient. I'm glad I didn't have to make a claim. I expect there would be unnecessary steps. Makes a person feel under valued as a customer. I give squaremouth 3 stars since it was neither extreme of good or bad. I hate these kind of surveys. I want the option of no rating in this case but it wouldn't let me. Giving feedback is one thing but ratings are another. If I have an issue with a business I will let them know. If they deserve the highest praise I will let them know. Fishing for high ratings is a bad practice.

In July 2018, we traveled to hike in the Alps in a trip sponsored by Road Scholar. Halfway through the trip, my wife broke her ankle. Road Scholar was excellent in providing medical care and arranging our unexpected return to the US. Upon returning to the State, we filed a claim with iTravelInsured for medical bills and for the uncompleted portion of our trip. It took nearly a year for our claim to be processed and for there to be an acceptable resolution. We filed what we though was a completely documented claim - but iTravelInsured took months to process our paperwork and eventually when I called, the agent apologized saying that the review process hadn't taken place. Weeks later iTravelInsured paid only for medical coverage but not for the cancelled portion of our trip (which we had in our policy). Then they claimed they needed more papers submitted substantiating our claim - which they could have requested at the start of the process. Eventually they did reimburse us for the unused portion of our trip - but the lengthy delays, the bureaucratic snafus - left us very dissatisfied with this travel insurance company.

We had "cancel for any reason " coverage and had to cancel a planned cruise unexpectedly. Our only loss was for the airfare . The policy reimbursed us with no questions asked for the covered portion of our loss.
Communication is very slow in processing claims. I had to cancel a trip before leaving. I submitted a claim and then heard nothing for weeks. Although they did pay part of my claim in 3-4 weeks, there was no communication before then and no explanation of the portion that was denied. The overall time frame to pay my Cancel for Any Reason benefit was not bad, but the lack of communication is disappointing.
