Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
We had travelers from FL and IL and online wasn’t clear that it had to be 2 policies. Spoke customer service and they helped me out.
Online was a bit confusing since we had travelers from FL and IL. I contacted customer service and they were able to help. Would use again.
Relatively easy experience buying the policy. Thankfully we had no reason to file a claim.
Easy and very competitive pricing and great pre customer support who is knowledgeable
We were unable to travel my husband which was traveling with me tore his hamstring at the airport the day of departure
We have had a very disappointing experience with Tin Leg travel insurance, which was even more frustrating as we have been a loyal customer to them over many years.
A couple of months before our trip we have learnt that an airline we have booked one segment of our trip with is winding down operations. Fortunately we have been able to book replacement tickets with another carrier, but at a higher cost. We have then decided to file a claim for the difference in airfare. As it turned out later, naively, we have thought that this is one of those unforeseen emergencies that travel insurance is meant to help with. To our surprise, we have received a letter from a claim adjustor stating, that since winding down operations by an air carrier is not listed as a covered event in the policy wording, our claim is denied. We have appealed their decision and reasoned that while this specific event isn't listed, it is clearly an unforeseen event completely outside of our control and as such it should be covered, but the adjustor has stuck to their guns and denied our claim again.
I am only rating them as 2 starts instead of 1, since they have processed the claim in reasonable time.
The whole situation left us very frustrated and disappointed with Tin Leg. Needless to say, we will not be looking to use their services again.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Your policy covers bankruptcy related to the carrier; however, the winding down of operations by the carrier is not covered. We understand this outcome is frustrating. We regret that your claim was not resolved as you hoped.
My bag was damaged during the trip due to mishandling with Aer Lingus baggage. We had to duct taped it to make it back to the US. When we filed a claim, Tin Leg asked for additional information which we had to send twice. They asked for the receipt of purchase of the suitcase which we didn’t have. We provided the round trip itinerary and I D’s of all travelers and several pictures of the damaged bag. But without the receipt of prior purchase, they closed the case. This is the first time I filed a claim with a travel insurance and it was not a good experience in my opinion.
Customer Service was very helpful with question I had when applying for coverage
The area we rented in was under an mandatory evacuation during Hurricane Erin so we were not able to check into our rental. We submitted a claim and had approval for a full refund within a week and now expect payment within days. We would highly recommend Tin Leg travel insurance.
On day two of the trip, I think we both came down with COVID: coughing, sore throat, headache. Husband tried to find a doctor but due to language difficulties, he had no luck. We've both had many COVID shots so we were only tired two days. Although we didn't use the insurance, it was nice knowing it was there. I would use them again for an international trip.
