Tin Leg offers nine policies on Squaremouth, with its Gold plan being the top seller on the marketplace. They provide affordable cancellation options and have plans tailored for cruises and adventure travel.
See how Tin Leg compares to other providers on Squaremouth in customer satisfaction and service quality:
*The overall customer rating is the average of all reviews for the provider since they joined the marketplace.
Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
On line information was excellent; easy access, straight forward information and comparison, no confusing language, easy to purchase.
At our age the ability to cancel without loosing all of our deposits and final payments was very important (had a Mother who was very ill prior to our departure).
Although we did not expect any medical issues while traveling, we did have an issue, so it is nice that we were covered for that too.
Too early.
WIll see how they handle my claim.
I don't know why an extension of ANY policy one on a trip is not available. While I'm told it is internationally, it makes no sense to not have it for domestic travel. People's travel plans change and to not have further piece of mind available after purchase is a loss to the purchasers along with the provider (business).
This issue should be clearly stated as I'm told it is common practice PRIOR TO PURCHASE.
The only other option I could think of is to buy out past any time of trip extension (while not getting a refund for time not used), which I'm told is not possible as there must be a start and end date. I'm told it is an industry standard as the reason for not providing the extension - rebated my monies for second policy purchase.
I love Squaremouth but gave a 4 star as I was sold a policy that should not have been sold to me when I tried to extend my coverage after departure to keep insurance, instead I was sold a new policy, which I found should not have been done. I gave TIn Leg while I liked the policy a 4 star since I was unable to extend my policy.
Again, as I always state perhaps there could be the option of adding or eliminating protections that are not needed - for example extra car rental, life insurance, trip protection to make a more customized policy prior to purchase.
Think about it - people's plans change if no claim has been put forth at the time of the extension request = what is the difference especially if you do it internationally with more opportunity for issues.
I became ill on our trip and had to be taken to a hospital - released after two days & spent the rest of the scheduled trip recuperating in our hotel before returning home with our tour. I called Tin Leg to inform them of the incident and received information about how to file a claim. So my rating really won't be available until the claim is settled.
Since there was no need for a claim, I really do not have an informed comment. Thanks.
Communication with both Squaremouth and Tin Leg was excellent. They responded to all questions and concerns and were very helpful.
Had a very positive experience in the purchase of travel insurance. The agent was helpful in explaining certain aspects of the coverage i did not fully understand. The ability to compare benefits and pricing was extremely helpful and I was able to purchase the best policy for our family.
I would certainly recommend the policy as it was a very fair price and covered all that I believed we would need.
Tin Legs had a good price for "75% refund for cancellation for any reason." We were traveling to Russia and had concerns about the political situation when we booked the trips. Most carriers offer only a 50% refund on cancellation for any reason for a similar price to Tin Legs.
Our concerns were unfounded--politics are bad but had no effect on our trip--but we had peace of mind knowing we could cancel if the situation had further deteriorated. We would recommend this policy to others in this situation.
Purchasing the insurance was an easy process, and I even contacted the 24 hr number prior to the trip to confirm accessing the number prior to departure.
Other than purchasing the insurance and verifying the 24hr number, I really don't have any additional information to evaluate Tin Leg. However, we may be filing a claim in the near future. While walking on a Shore Excursion in St. Petersburg, Russia, my wife tripped on some uneven pavement in the roadway and fell. She tried to break her fall, landing on her left wrist. The Medical Center back on the ship, the Norweigan Star, took x-rays that showed a fracture at the base of her little finger. It has now been over two weeks and the swelling has gone down significantly, but when she tries to close her fist, her ring finger does not close straight. It is at an angle. She will have to follow up with her personal physician in the near future.
No claim forthcoming on the recently completed overseas trip.
Due to ease of purchase and value have already bought another policy with Tin Leg for a trip overseas in November this year.
