  • Tin Leg policy: Luxury

We have an extended family member (not traveling with us) battling a serious chronic illness and the uncertainty of his health made planning a vacation difficult. I was able to talk with a representative who listened to my situation and helped me pick a policy that would cover us in the event that we needed to cancel our vacation. Thankfully our family member was stable and we were able to travel. If our family member's health declined in the days before or during our cruise we of course would have cancelled. Altho no insurance policy could cover our disappointment if we had to cancel, the right policy can cover the cost of the cruise.

Bags were delayed over 24 hours, Tin Leg paid and were great.

I would not recommend this policy as when I had questions about the policy when I was abroad, they did not answer the question I was asking but rather just gave brief general answers almost as if they had not read my question. It also took me multiple emails to get an answer after over a week of not hearing back from them, which when you are traveling is simply not acceptable.

We have traveled globally for many years; my husband, an airline guy and I , the spouse. We had never taken out any travel insurance. Finally, retired and in the first years of our 80's, a sense of possible vulnerability crept into our travel planning!
Good heavens, we might trip over something! Or some strange bug might find us a cozy home! We liked your names and your wonderful service -- people who talked to us and not by rote but actually seemed interested in what we needed. Would wonders never cease? The trip, a month in Tokyo, was just perfect, visiting our Foreign Service family and grandchildren. We basked privately in our feeling of absolute security from any calamity that might occur. After a long very hot and strenuous day tramping through shrines and castles, we realized I needed some medical attention, A short consult and blood test in a wonderful medical clinic (allied with Johns Hopkins) revealed severe dehydration and convinced me to drink 8 glasses of water no mater where I may be for the rest of my life. We followed all instructions to call your staff and inform them and complied quickly with their requests for documentation. They were so pleasant and eager to assist us in all ways. Our congratulations for hiring people who are both knowledgeable about what can be a complex subject, and just plain nice people when it comes to dealing with their customers. Thank you for your super service -- my husband and I are lifting our (water) glasses to all of you.

The web site, buying experience, customer service for answering specific questions were all excellent. Since the cruise was a 100% perfect experience, I have no idea what the claim experience would be like. I can only assume it would be just as good as buying the policy was!

One main attraction to the policy was it's primary coverage for medical.

Tin Leg was completely unresponsive by email. They eventually followed up by mail requesting the same information I had already provided by both mail and email, except it needed to be on their form. The claim is still in process 45 days later. Not sure what the outcome will be.

As I recall (more than 6 weeks previous to this review & travel) the purchase process was easy. I felt some peach of mind that should I need medical it would be there. The peace of mind makes it worth the additional cost of the travel, especially mine of 28 days & some major concerns.

    Tin Leg policy: Economy

We purchased a policy with Tin Leg (TLE13-100277) to cover our trip from Chicago to Costa Rica. Our itinerary required us to make a connecting flight in Houston both ways.
My wife came down with intestinal cramps and diarrhea on the 4th day of our trip and had to be seen by a doctor
In addition to that on our return trip, bad weather in Houston delayed the departure of our plane from there by about 6 hours. This caused us to miss the last connecting flight from Houston to Chicago and forced us to stay overnight there. We filed a claim for medical expenses and the cost of the hotel room.
We filed a claim on June 9th. As of this date (June 25th) we have not even had an acknowledgement that the claim has been received. We would not recommend this company to other travelers.

Customer service was very helpful and polite in answering questions and providing information about the insurance we were seeking. We did not need to file any type of claim but the price for the insurance we needed was pretty fair.
