Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
I wanted to cancel my trip since I was let go from my employer two weeks before our departure date. I contacted customer service to verify we could cancel, but was told the fine print said I had to have worked for that specific employer for at least 3 years. I have worked continuously for 25 years in tech, but had just switched jobs after 7.5 years at my previous company. This requirement is ridiculous and prevented me from using the insurance to cancel my trip. I would not purchase this insurance again.
Hi Sarah
I apologize for the frustration you have experienced.
The Employment Layoff benefit of travel insurance can cover travelers who cancel their trip due to an involuntary layoff or termination of employment. However, in order for this benefit to apply, you must be employed continuously for 1 to 3 years. This is a common requirement within all policies that offer this benefit, although the required length of time varies by policy. Within the policy you purchased, the requirement is 3 years.
I apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome.
I got Covid before travel and so couldn't take the trip. However, it was not obvious to me that I needed to get an "official" test result from a hospital/physician to get reimbursed for a claim and a home test result wouldn't suffice. As a result my claim was denied.
The initial emails I recieved after my claim came quickly. I provided all of the requested information. The last file I emailed was on March 5, a week ago. I have not heard anything since then. I have just re-send my last zipfile to Tin Leg's claims email address.
Thank you for asking.
Review Updated: 04/09/2024
The requests were easy to follow and easy to submit. I've never submitted a travel insurance claim before but I had a very positive experience. I was very thorough with providing the requested information and did so in a timely manner. Tin Leg was great. I would hear from them each week acknowledging that they were working on my claim and then asking for specific information. The whole process only took about 3 weeks for me to hear that it was approved. I also received an email from Squaremouth that it was approved as well and when I would receive the money. Everything happpened just they stated. Excellent service.
Hi Jenny
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have spoken with our claims team regarding the status of your claim.
I understand you initially submitted documentation for your claim on 3/5/2024. Our team typically reviews claims documentation within 15 business days of submission. The claim examiner will be reviewing your documentation this week to make a determination on your claim. If any additional documentation is needed, we will let you know at that time.
Thank you for your patience. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.
I'm waiting to hear back on my claim
Tin Leg had done a good job did answered all my questions and we're satisfied with their knowledge. Thank you for service.
This was the first time that we used Square Mouth for travel insurance. I was not aware of you until my sister recommended you. It was very easy to do.
I am satisfied with the service.
I have purchased travel insurance several times and this was my first time filing a claim. My son ended up having the flu two days before our cruise and we had to miss our cruise. Luckily we were able to get him a doctor appointment before we left. They asked for all sorts of documentation (which was reasonable under the circumstances). Just make sure you seek medical attention and have everything documented. If we were to just stay home or if we weren't able to get a doctor visit, I'm unsure of how the process would have went. Tin Leg refuned me for the entire amount of my cruise in a reasonable time frame and I was very pleased. I will be buying the Tin Leg Gold for every cruise going forward.
Excellent customer service in answering my questions pre-trip. I did not have any incidents requiring a claim, so cannot speak to that process.
The claim process has been laborious and frustrating. A flight was cancelled requiring an unplanned overnight stay. A simple claim for hotel expenses has required reams of paperwork and still has not been resolved.
