John Hancock customers praise the provider for their helpful customer service, especially when modifying existing policies. Some customers report slow communication and time-consuming paperwork when filing a claim.
My wife had to have emergency brain surgery and we had to cancel our cruise and flight. We called and filed a claim and provided all of the information that John Hancock Insurance had requested. We have received emails requesting additional information, which we had previously provided to them.We are still waiting for a response.
It was difficult getting an answer to my question of flying home to the US in case of illness. Jamaica is not a place where you want to stay if you need some care , especially hospital care and I wanted to be sure that I would be taken to the states . Their answer was not good enough so I would not use them again.
I am completely satisfied with John Hancock's handling of my claim. My husband and I had to see a doctor twice while we were in Europe for sudden severe cold and allergy symptoms which threatened to prevent us from flying home. We submitted a claim by mail and we were notified immediately on-line that our paperwork had been received. Within weeks we had received a check for the physician visits. The claim was handled courteously and promptly.
I changed policies after I bought the first policy, switching from a Bronze with extras to a Silver. No problem making that small adjustment. Didn't need to use this policy, but glad I had it just in case. Seemed like a very good policy for a modest price.
The price for coverage was excellent when I compared the coverage for what I needed on this international trip. The representative was VERY helpful in describing the coverage details to make sure I was buying what my family needed. When we finalized our order the rate was even lower than what was published online and we felt very comfortable that we were well covered on this trip. Knowing and understanding our coverage gave us fantastic peace of mind especially on this trip where a typhoon hit the area we were staying. Thankfully the weather did not disrupt our travel schedule or flights....we only missed a few days on the beach. Knowing that we were covered gave us the confidence to relax and enjoy the thunderstorms over the ocean from our comfortable room. :-)
I was hospitalized 12/23/17 at the American Hospital in Paris with pneumonia while on vacation. Due to the holiday and poor cell phone service from the hospital, I initially had difficulty contacting Squaremouth Insurance. I reached the 24 hour emergency line and provided my basic claim information, and was told that a representative would be getting back to me that day. I did not receive any call or text, so I had to have my attorney (and friend) call several times before I was connected to Sheri H. She sent the proper forms to the hospital and my friend so we could get the process rolling.
I then worked with Amanda to coordinate medical release information from the doctor. She also took the lead in helping arrange my flight back to the U.S. Amanda was wonderful! Helpful, knowledgeable and empathetic to a poor lady stranded in a hospital bed in a foreign country. She kept me informed and also was kind enough to keep my friend in the loop as well. I did get grumpy with her at one point, but it was more to due with my feeling helpless to make anything happen. She was very gracious and understood the situation I was in. In short, it was a pleasure to work with her and her professionalism should be recognized!
It was a perfect storm regarding the initiation of this claim - smack in the middle of the Christmas holiday, a 10 hour time zone difference, and poor cell phone service on my part. Hopefully the rest of the claim process will go as smoothly.
I am waiting for the final bill and hospital report from the American Hospital, which I was told would take about 5 days to generate and translate to English.
Thank you for your assistance so far!

Still in the process of dealing with my claim for travel delay
I was given many options for insurance. I picked John Hancock because it was a long standing insurance company. Even though I paid more, I felt it was a good choice. Unfortunately, I had a medical emergency on my trip, and will be submitting a claim, as soon as I get the results from my doctor on a follow up appointment on Friday, December 15, 2017..
I was not presented with an option to have this coverage extended to rental vehicles. By no means would i have known that rental vehicles are not covered under trip interruption or cancel for any reason. When i called for a claim because of interruptions in my trip, i was very conveniently told that rental cars are not covered.
Thanks for your help and i will make sure for my future vacation trips i do not use your service and will recommend everyone to not use your service.
