Is Terrorism a covered reason under Trip Cancellation?

Last Updated:

Yes, most policies provide Terrorism coverage under their Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits.

In order for this benefit to be triggered, the incident must be deemed as “terrorism” by the US Department of State, or a local government where the attack occurred, and must meet the policy’s specified requirements. Typical requirements include:

  • The attack musth have occurred in or near a city listed on a traveler’s itinerary
  • The attack must have occurred within 7-30 days of a traveler’s scheduled arrival
  • There have been no other terrorist incidents in the same city within a specified period of time
