    Obtaining the travel insurance I needed was a very easy process. I had to adjust my coverage when some of my travel plans changed and all the representatives I dealt with were very helpful. Will definitely use AXA Assistance USA when I travel again.

    Good experience! We got an inexpensive policy for a two month trip to Canada. My husband ended up having to visit a private clinic and go for a few follow ups. We sent in our claim with all receipts via email and got an approval less than 2 weeks later. The only hiccup was that our policy was advertised as primary insurance and when I went to file the claim, I was told I needed to file with our insurance company first. Squaremouth was ready to help when I contacted them, and it turned out our AXA policy was primary because we live in NY. Make sure you know your policy! Aside from that, the process was surprisingly hassle free.

    It was not at all clear that the silver policy was secondary to Medicare or my medigap coverage. Had I known that I would have opted for the gold. I have a cap on my medigap expenses and the medical emergency I had in Calgary will add up to 5% of my coverage that has to last the rest of my life.

    AXA Assistance USA policy: Gold

    Had to contact AXA customer service and learned some finer points on filing a claim. A month after buying policy, 4 months before trip, airline screwed around with our schedule potentially causing us to be late for the start of our tour. Considered different flight with same airline vs cancelling flight (to fly different airline) and using travel insurance to cover loss of fare. Talked with AXA: yes, they would cover the airfare, BUT - that would use up the policy. If we wanted to still insure the actual trip, we would have to buy another policy. This was because the trip hadn't started yet. Once the trip started, the policy would cover claims for multiple events.
    I feel the customer assistance was fair and accurate in explaining how the policy worked. We took a different flight on the same airline (that's another story). We didn't need to use the policy on our trip which was great - in both meanings.
    I recommend the policy based on our experience.

    AXA Assistance USA policy: Platinum

    I originally purchased a "cancel for any reason" policy thru "InsureMyTrip" when I made original deposits on this trip since I had concerns for world safety and wanted ability to cancel should my concerns rise. Four months later as I purchased airfare and paid more toward the trip, I checked on the price to add this. It was cost-prohibitive in my opinion. So I called InsureMyTrip to ask how to change the coverage to a regurlar, comphrehenive plan without "cancel for any reason" coverage. I was not asking for a refund. I was told that it was impossible to change that. I called Squaremouth and was told they would cancel the original policy and write a new policy without "cancel for any reason" if they had been the source of the original policy. So I called InsureMyTrip and asked them to do that and was again told I had to continue with the original policy. I have been using InsureMyTrip for several years.
    So, I sent a certified letter to the carrier of the original policy, canceling it. Then I went on Squaremouth and purchased the comphrehensive policy for the entire trip. I will be using Squaremouth in the future! Thank you for having customer service reps who use logic.
