First Day of Fall: Squaremouth Shares Autumn Travel Trends for 2025

St. Petersburg, FL – September 22, 2025 — Today, September 22nd, marks the official first day of fall. A new survey conducted by Squaremouth, a leading travel insurance comparison site, revealed the motivations, priorities, and concerns of travelers this autumn. Though they’re still taking their trips, travelers are wary about rising costs and disruptions, prompting them to insure their travel plans.

Squaremouth’s Survey Findings 

  • 82% of travelers buying travel insurance in September are insuring their fall travel plans. 
  • 40% of travelers shared that rising prices for airfare, lodging, etc., are their biggest challenge.
  • 28% of travelers are most concerned about disruptions from weather and delays.

Where Travelers are Headed

In addition to the survey insights, Squaremouth uncovered the top 5 destinations for Fall 2025. Most destinations saw an average trip cost increase, echoing the concerns of the 40% of surveyed travelers who said rising prices are their biggest pain point. Despite high prices, travelers are still choosing Spain, which had the highest price increase year-over-year, 13.4%.

Why They’re Traveling

  • 37% are traveling this fall for family or friend gatherings.
  • 45% are traveling with their spouse or partner.
  • 26% said their top priority is exploring a new place, while 20% want relaxation and downtime.

When They’re Booking Travel

  • 31% of travelers began planning their fall trip 6 months or more in advance.
  • 28% of travelers only started planning their trip 3 or less months in advance. 

Survey Methodology

Squaremouth surveyed and analyzed data from nearly 2,000 customers who purchased travel insurance between 9/11/2025 and 9/18/2025 to identify fall travel trends.
