Protests are taking place throughout Tanzania over the country’s general election. As of October 31, 2025, roughly 700 people have died during the protests, according to BBC.
For travelers with an upcoming trip to Tanzania: Unfortunately, most travel insurance policies do not offer standard cancellation or delay benefits for political unrest. If a level 4 travel advisory is issued, select plans may offer cancellation benefits. However, Tanzania is currently under a level 2 advisory. Currently, the only benefit that can provide cancellation coverage is Cancel For Any Reason.
For travelers who are currently traveling in Tanzania: The Non-Medical Evacuation benefit can transport travelers from a place of danger to a place of safety in the event of political unrest. However, unfortunately, most policies will not off Trip Interruption coverage. However, similar to Trip Cancellation, if the CDC alert becomes a Level 4 Advisory, select policies may offer interruption coverage.
