Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
My granddaughter had an allergic attack and went into anaphylactic shock 3 hours into an 8 hour flight from Italy to Boston. From the plane to a waiting ambulance and then to Boston Children's Hospital. The event was frightening to all aware of the issue. I contacted Tin Leg Insurance, which I had purchased, to let them know what was happening. After a week of hospitalization she finally recovered and came home.
Throughout the process of filing a claim Tin Leg was attentive, informative and incredibly kind and understanding. Every communication from them started with an inquiry as to how my granddaughter was doing. Additionally, the people who called were supportive to my daughter, the child's mother, who was dealing with everything alone in the hospital as her husband had to stay home and continue to work. I just can't say enough about how wonderful the people at Tin Leg are.
The claim was huge and was paid without complaint or argument. An insurance company actually paid the claim without challenge. They also paid all the extra expenses that my daughter incurred during the hospital stay.
Noone in our family or who hears the story will travel without coverage from this company. I am shocked to hear myself praising an insurance company!!
I cannot say enough about how wonderful Tin Leg is and Squaremouth where I found Tim Leg while web-surfing for basic information. THANK YOU for listing this incredible company. I will be posting my thoughts on the website as I believe people looking for travel insurance should know about this company.
We planned an paid for a Seabourn cruise to So. East Asia, departing 2/14/17. On 1/11/17 my husband broke his leg, and two weeks later learned that he required surgery on torn ligaments and separated ankle bones, which caused the doctor to mandate that he could not go on the cruise. In the latter part of January, we filed a claim with Tin Leg, for $14,000.00 (to recover some, but not all costs of the trip that we were forced to cancel.)
The lady was nice on the phone...but we haven't heard any more about our claim since then. I should have asked how long it takes to process a claim, since it has been about 7 weeks since we filed. I will call and ask how the claim is proceeding.

It took a little while but it was handled professionally and to our satisfaction..
Thank you.. and thank you for the follow up!
What we found:
Your claim was received on 1/27/17 and there was a delay in processing your claim.
What we did about it:
A member of our claims team contacted you to confirm your claim was approved and checks were mailed out on 3/23/17.
Tin Leg was very responsive to our medical emergency while on travel. It was great that we could speak with someone back in USA while we were abroad. The only downside was the little prodding that we had to do to check in on the claim status and the time for the claim to be approved and paid out., which seem slightly longer than usual. It would have been great if Tin Leg provided a status update of the claim on an app or website.
The 24-hour service was amazing as I faced dropping everything to return to the US when my mother passed away. They were compassionate and efficient.
I goofed when completing the forms for buying insurance. I had the trip lasting from 2/15/17 to 3/25/17. When I called to correct the trip length (2/15/17 - 2/25/17, the person stated a supervisor would contact me as there may be a price change. When Ten Leg responded they stated there was no price change. I think there should have been a price reduction as the trip length was reduced by 1 month. The printing was small and I did not see the 3/25/17.
What We Found:
Your travel dates were updated after we received your request on 2/6/2017.
What We Did About It:
The premium for Tin Leg policies is calculated by the traveler's age and trip cost, not the length of the trip. This is why your premium did not decrease when you updated your travel dates.
All positive re dealing with Squaremouth. The customer service reps were very helpful as was the website. I do think the travel insurance could have been a bit cheaper though.
After providing the needed documentation, my claim was handled quickly and professionally.
I am very pleased with the manner my claim was handled.
It is a pleasant change from the long drawn out process usually experienced when dealing with insurance companies when handling claims.
Thank you !
Everything went smoothly. No problems and no need to make a claim.
Prior to my trip the cost of the cruise was reduced substantially .I called Tin Leg to see if I could get the ins. cost reduced. After the agent research the possibility I was given the requested reduction in costs.
I filed a claim January 13th before my trip. I had to cancel because of illness. I filed all of the necessary forms, etc.. It is February 25th and and I am still waiting for this to be resolved......not happy.
