What is Co-Insurance?

Co-Insurance is the percentage of medical expenses, after the Medical Deductible, that are the responsibility of the insured.

Typically, travel insurance policies with Co-Insurance will cover 80% of the first $5,000 of medical expenses, and then 100% of the remaining expenses up to a policy’s medical limit. This means a traveler would be responsible for 20% of the first $5,000 in medical bills.

Policies without Co-Insurance can cover 100% of the medical expenses up to the coverage limit.

Please be aware that coverage and eligibility requirements for this benefit differ by policy. The tables below show the providers that offer Co-Insurance coverage.
