IMG customers have noted that the customer service is attentive both before and during their trips, especially when they need to modify their policies. Some customers have experienced difficulties with the online claims portal and uploading documents. However, IMG has recently improved its claims process to make it more efficient and transparent for customers.
I thought it was pricey. No interaction because we didn’t have to file a claim.
I am very disappointed my claim was denied. My passport was lost or stolen on the train from Heathrow airport to my hotel. I submitted documents from the London American Embassy proving I had to an emergency passport and I could not leave England except to return back to America. My claim was denied. I will not use your insurance company again and will tell others to do the same.
I will never use IMG again. Our trip was interrupted due to a death in the family (my wife's nephew passed away) so I needed some advice regarding how to file a claim. I am new at this, so I needed to know how to verify and document the relationship between my wife and her nephew. For starters, there was nothing in the IMG literature that we received prior to our trip that told us what number to call in order to speak to a live human, so I had to call Squaremouth to get this. When I called IMG, I had the misfortune of speaking with an inexcusably rude woman named Shana. She was so totally unhelpful and had such a miserable attitude that I finally just hung up on her. I called back later and spoke with a reasonably polite lady named Brianna, but she was too inexperienced to help me, and basically she just told me to start working on the claim and take my chances.
The next thing I tried to do was use the on-line application form on the IMG website. I answered all of the questions and uploaded a couple of documents, but when I reached Step 4 and attempted to upload Additional Documents for "Proof of Relationship" and "Documentation of Unforeseen Event", it attempted to upload the file and then crapped out, displaying this message in bright red:
"Sorry, we are unable to upload your file right now due to an unexpected server error. Please try again later."
I tried it several times that day without success, and then tried it again the next day, with the same results. Without uploading these two documents, the process would not go any further. In desperation, I called IMG again spoke with a reasonably helpful lady named Nia. She said that it is not uncommon for the website claim program to **** out at that point, so she advises the people she speaks with to fill out the manual claim form instead. She sent me one of these via an e-mail attachment and I filled it out and returned it to her the same day. That was last Friday, October 6. Today is Wednesday, October 11, and so far I have not received an acknowledgment of my claim nor anything else from IMG.
On a scale of Zero to ten, I would rank my satisfaction with IMG as a ZERO. On my next trip, I plan to use Allianz.
Review Updated: 11/08/2023
The travel insurance policy that we purchased from SquareMouth (IMG) was for a six-week trip that we took in Switzerland between August 23 and October 4, 2023. The focal point of the trip was a nine-day "Vacations By Rail" tour that commenced in week 5 of our vacation. The cost of this tour was $7,230, and if for some reason we would not be able to join the tour, the full amount would have been forfeited. For all of the other reservations for our trip (e.g., hotels, air fare, car rentals), we paid the "fully-refundable" rate, usually at a substantial premium, so we had no exposure for any of these expenditures. As a result, the amount of travel insurance we purchased was solely for the cost of the rail tour, namely $7,230.
Early in the second week of our trip, we learned that my wife's nephew had died suddenly, and we really had no choice other than to return to the U.S. to attend the funeral and deal with other essential family matters. Regarding the remainder of our vacation, we basically had two options: [#1] Return to the U.S. and stay there, in which case we would have filed a claim with IMG for the full amount of the abandoned rail tour (a claim for $7,230), or [#2] Return to the U.S. for only a week and then return to Switzerland in time to join the rail tour, in which case the amount of the claim would be for only our round-trip airfare plus car rental (which turned out to be only $3,548.10).
We chose option #2, and when our trip was concluded we filed a claim for $3,548.10. Please note that if we had simply returned home for the funeral and then stayed there (thereby missing the rail tour), we would have had an undeniably legitimate claim under the "Trip Interruption" provision of the policy, and this would have cost IMG $7,230. Instead we chose a course of action that cost less than half of that amount, thereby saving IMG $3,681.90. You would think that IMG would have been pleased, but instead they denied the claim in its entirety.
If you check your records, you will find that this is the third time that we have used SquareMouth (IMG). There are plenty of insurance companies out there who will gladly take your money and then figure out a way to weasel out of paying the claims, but I had hoped that IMG was better than that. Obviously I was wrong.
Obtaining insurance was easy. Contract details were straightforward and easy to understand. When I had a question, it was quickly answered by an agent on line.
Had to cancel our trip two days before departure due to husband having a heart attack. IN process of filing a claim for refund....All documents have been provided yet they are still giving me a hard time. Not too happy with this process.
Will learn more in the next few days.
before submitting my claim, i called to get clarification and the agent was not attentive and wanted to provide her own version of how the claim needed to be submitted. i dont think she was listening to me in the first place. that is quite disappointing.
I needed to cancel my trip for a medical condition that developed about a week before departure.
My experience purchasing the policy was easy and pleasant enough. Fortunately, we did not need to make a claim but we were able to travel with the knowledge and comfort that we had our coverage while abroad.
I had questions and spoke with a representative who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions.
The policy was very affordable.
Didn't need it ... glad I had it.
