We appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns about your active claim. Please reach out to your claim adjuster via email, and we’ll arrange a call to go over the details and answer any questions you have.
Phone call was initiated for my claim. Support was great and timely during this holiday season.
I had a question prior to traveling. I spoke to a representative. She was not very helpful. She just read from a script and told me to read the policy. I would have preferred speaking with someone who would answer my specific question.
I rated 1 star because the questions did not apply to me.
We understand your frustration, but because our agents aren't licensed claims examiners, they are legally restricted to providing factual policy language rather than interpreting coverage. For a definitive answer regarding your specific situation, we recommend submitting a claim for a licensed review.
Customer service needs to be empowered to answer direct questions about your contracts prior to purchase and departure (in particular fine print questions in regard to activities).
Outstanding interaction with our rep at Squaremouth and will definitely use again
Customer service rep was friendly, knowlegable, kind. He answered all my questions and made changes to my policy as needed.
I found out that a prescription Rx that I left behind and had to see a Dr while on trip to get Rx and the medication itself is not covered under the plan. Ridiculous! It will make name think twice about buying Tin Leg again!
To help clarify, travel insurance is designed to protect against unforeseen medical emergencies, such as a sudden illness or injury that occurs while traveling. Because maintenance or routine medications for pre-existing conditions are considered "foreseen" needs, they are generally not covered under any travel insurance plans. We hope you will consider Tin leg for your future travel needs.
I had a trip scheduled in Fall of 2025. However, due to political unrest and domestic terrorism in the country of travel (Ecuador) that trip was cancelled by the trip operator on the day before my departure. I had purchased a TinLeg Gold Travel Plan which purported to provide 100% cancellation refunds for cancellations due to domestic or foreign terrorism (unexpected events). Nevertheless, the claim I submitted was denied. The reason for the denial was that under a separate definitions section of the policy, terrorism is defined to include only terrorism certified by the US Department of Homeland Security. So, despite the fact that the terrorism in this case was formally recognized and called out by the US State Department, and the US Embassy in Ecuador, this trip cancellation was classified as not qualified for refund. It is important to note that the trip insurance policy was scheduled for travel in Ecuador, and that unless the terrorism in Ecuador had posed a direct threat to the United States of America, it would have never qualified for a refund. Certainly, the policy should include a very clear statement that it only covers cancellation due to terrorism that poses a threat to the United States. In my opinion, although the definition of terrorism was included in a separate section of the policy (definitions), claiming that the policy for travel to Ecuador covered foreign and domestic terrorism was misleading and would certainly qualify as false advertising. While I would never consider purchasing trip insurance from TinLeg or SquareMouth again, the general lesson learned is that just reading the SquareMouth policy summaries is not adequate protection for the consumer, you need to literally read the entire document from TinLeg. That document in my case was 26 pages long and did not arrive until after I purchased the policy from SquareMouth. What an eye opening and terrible experience this has been. Buyer Beware!!!
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Your claim was denied because the events in Ecuador did not meet the specific definition of a Terrorist Attack outlined in your policy, which requires formal certification by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of Homeland Security. We recognize this outcome is disappointing and that the distinction between State Department advisories and TRIA certification is frustrating. We are happy to help with any further questions; please feel free to email your claim adjuster directly.
On my recent trip to Japan I experienced a gout flare-up on my left foot. It got to a point where I had difficulty walking, so I called customers service asking for help. I asked for a list of English-speaking doctors in Kyoto that I could visit and get precriptions. Turned out Tin Leg had no such list, and I was merely referred to an urgent care clinic operated by the city of Kyoto. Aside from the potential language barrier, that clinic was quite a distance away from my hotel. I decided to just get the over-the-counter Ibuprofen and cooling patches from a pharmacy closeby. That helped a little. I can't imagine what would happen if I had a more serious condition that needed immediate attention.
