Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
Everything was handled easily and professionally, as our travel agent in Cambodia required we have certain coverages. The poicy was put in place within minutes of my contacting the agent. No need for any claims.
I purchased the insurance because my boyfriend had recently been diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer. At the time that we booked our trip, his treatment was supposed to be long over before we were scheduled to leave. However, Keith ran into some complications, his treatment plan changed, and he ended up being in the middle of his radiation treatment during the time we were scheduled to travel.
I spoke with Tin Leg and advised of the situation. I submitted all requested paperwork - which was a ridiculous amount of paperwork to obtain and send - and my claim was denied due to a pre-existing condition.
I am sure that other cancer patients travel while going through treatment. Our intent when we booked our travel, was that Keith would go. We purchase the insurance as a precaution. That ended up being a poor decision since I was still stuck with paying the full balance of vacation and then paid a premium for insurance which served no purpose.
Hi Laura
I apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome. I have discussed your situation with our claims team, and understand your claim was denied due to your boyfriend's pre-existing condition.
In order for a Tin Leg policy to provide coverage for a pre-existing condition, all of the following conditions must be met:
1. You must purchase the policy within 15 days of making your initial trip deposit
2. You and your traveling companion must be considered medically stable when you buy your policy
3. You must insure 100% of your prepaid and non-refundable trip expenses

Had to leave Fiji a day early due to an approaching cyclone. Talking to claims folks next week.
My purchase experience was easy and very simple to compare. When I needed to make an update to my policy, it was very quick and easy to do. Overall very positive experience.
Quick, almost effortless refund of medical expenses incurred on cruise.
Our daughter got sick and she delayed her flight for two days. I called to ask if that was covered (she had been to the doctor and had all the paperwork). Tin Leg customer service said unless she decides to cancel the entire trip, it won't pay for any fees. I felt cheated since we bought insurance exactly for these circumstances.
Hi Betty
I apologize that we were not more helpful when you contacted us. Customer service is our number one priority, and we always want to be as helpful as possible when our customers contact us. In this case, we fell short.
I have spoken with our claims team, and understand that your daughter has a claim interview scheduled.

My wife and I are over 70 and even though we didn't need to take advantage of our insurance policy, it was comforting to know that we were covered by the insurance in case an emergency health or trip issue developed. We will most likely become return customers as we continue to travel through life's adventure.
Had a question about adding additional coverage to existing policy. Response was quick and representative was polite and helpful.
Long after purchasing insurance I realized that one flight stopped with no change of planes in Mali, a country, excluded from my coverage. Customer Service looked into the matter and reassured me that as long as I was only in the airport for the scheduled stop I would be covered during that brief time. I wish they would have put that in writing. The flight and stopover were uneventful fortunately. Thanks.
This is the first time I have filed a claim but not the first time I had used Tin Leg. The claiming process went smoother than I expected. Had the Doctors office provided the required paperwork quicker I believe the claim could have been resolved in less than two weeks. Again I have no one to compare this experience against but from my experiences with other forms of insurance this one was a painless as it gets.
