This is third policy I’ve purchased from Squarmouth. When i had questions I chatted with help desk and was taken care of quickly and effectively. I will choose TinLeg if possible because of value for cost and their reviews. Have never had to use it though.
A week before we were scheduled to leave for a month long trip to France, my husband's 90+ widowed mother was hospitalized. We had to cancel our trip in its entirety so my husband could deal with his mother's hospitalization, rehab, and subsequent admission to an assisted living facility as he is her health care proxy. As soon as we realized we had to cancel our trip, I called Tin Leg on a Sunday. They scheduled an intake interview for the next morning with Brandi. She took the information, explained the process, told me what documentation was required, and patiently answered all my questions. We had booked everything ourselves and had several thousand dollars of non-refundable expenses. In two weeks, via the on-line upload system, I submitted the documentation proving what we had spent (in US Dollars), and that it was non-refundable, e.g. credit card statement (everything except the claim part blanked out), and either emails from the vendors confirming they would not refund our money or the original confirmation of booking stating the cost was non-refundable. The next morning I received an email approving the entire claim, and had check in hand four days later. The process could not have been smoother.
Lessons learned: 1) Call as soon as you know you have a claim so the case worker can explain exactly what documentation you will need for the claim.
2) If dealing with hospitals and doctors, get the required forms to them right away and make sure they submit them directly to Tin Leg. Nothing will get approved without submission of those forms.
3) Once you confirm Tin Leg has the medical documentation, prepare the rest of your package and submit in its entirety, not piecemeal.
4) Write a cover letter summarizing the situation and itemizing what documentation is included. It will save back and forth between you and the case worker.
5) Create a single PDF of the cover letter and documentation, and it will load immediately on the website.
I have purchased trip insurance many times and never had to use it. This is our first policy with Tin Leg. I very rarely write reviews, but the service was so outstanding I felt I had to write this review.
I have used Tin Leg for many years but this was the first time in all our traveling throughout the world that we needed help.
