I purchase from squaremouth because I know I can count on your to prevent getting abused by insurers
I appreciated that I could buy the insurance policy while my dates were still a bit fluid and then revise the actual travel dates once flights were booked. We even ended up spending a few days in a nearby country before our cruise, and that was not an issue either.
We have used Tin Leg for several years now. Anytime we have had any questions or a need to make a change to our policy ( rarely though) we have been able to reach a representative very easily. They have always been friendly, helpful, and able to deal with our query or concern immediately along with a follow up eMail if needed. Based on all the continuing positive reviews from those who have needed to make claims, they will continue to be our first choice for future travel insurance.
Very easy to find what I was looking for and to enroll. I’ll be using you again on my next trip.
Only thing I didn't like about travel insurance is the out of pocket you have to pay hospital if your admitted. I wouldn't be able to pay $10,000 or more out of pocket to get reimbursed later, I dont have that kind of money, so will I not be admitted to hospital if needed if I dont have cash up front, this made me feel uneasy and felt like this travel insurance is worthless unless you have a deep pocket to pay upfront.
So far it's been great. They have very good customer service on the front end. I just filed my claim and had my interview. They've been very responsive so far. We will see how it goes.
Claim process is a complete pain and super complicated to complete it should be much more simple to complete a claim.
We bought this policy for a 30 day trip to Peru.
We arrived in Cusco and seemed to be handling the altitude well. Suddenly Rick got very sick with repeated vomiting all night long. The symptoms seemed to match severe altitude sickness. I took him to the hospital the next morning where tests confirmed food poisoning. We could have left then but thought it would be better to stay one night and get some IV antibiotics and hydration. We were assured that our insurance had covered the first day and were not planning on a second day.
Early the next morning he was discharged but told we couldn’t leave because they were still waiting to hear from the insurance about day 2. We said there was no day 2 because he’d been discharged. After we had been there waiting beyond the 24 hour mark they said we could leave but might be responsible for day 2 charges.
A summary of charges provided up until that point seemed to show around $300. in charges for day 1 that had been approved. Then a couple days later we were sent a bill for over $1700! Nothing was itemized. All the additional charges were supposedly for day 2. We dispute this all. He was discharged before day 2 began. Day two cost 4 x of day 1 and no services were received after he was discharged at around 8:30 or 9 AM.
We got no itemized bill to explain the huge increase. Plus they harassed us by phone and text for days. We asked repeal or an itemized bill and received nothing.
Their customer support and agents were excellent. I greatly appreciated their software and the claim process from a technology standpoint.
As far as coverage, I am disappointed. My trip was delayed 24 hours due to Sun Country's system malfunction, and my party of 3, all insured by Tin Leg were left to cover our expenses and miss work. $2000+ in losses. But Sun Country system failure wasn't considered a trip delay or a travel interruption in Tin Legs small print, so they weren't able to cover the $500ish we claimed.
3/5 for the pedantic parsing what is considered a delay or interruption, but great people and tech.
Squaremouth has been a good resource for selection of travel insurance. Direct interactions with Tin Leg were handled efficiently.
