squaremouth was fine. Tin Leg I had an issue with
the 5 star rating for predeparture is really a non issue....I did not have any interaction with them prior to leaving
1. My claim is settled. But I would like to say that I believe it is wrong for Tin Leg not to cover travel expenses related to replacing items lost by the airline. I could not have replaced the lost items necessary to continue our trip without traveling to a place where I could purchase them. I used the cheapest form of transportation possible and the cost was minimal--about $10! I really feel I was nickel-and-dimed. A seemingly small thing like that makes me think twice about using Tin Leg in the future.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for choosing Tin Leg. We’re glad to hear your claim was settled and that we could reimburse you for your necessary purchases under the Baggage Delay benefit.
However, we understand your frustration regarding the travel expenses incurred to replace your lost items. While transportation costs aren't covered under the Baggage Delay benefit, we did reimburse you for coverage under essential personal effects.
Your feedback is valuable, and we hope this experience doesn’t deter you from considering us in the future. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Problem was not buying the policy but the claim filing process and results were awful. We had a minor claim (covid test kit and covid over the counter med) but Tin Leg refused to pay a penny despite providing them all the receipts and details.
We will never use Tin Leg again - can't trust they will ever pay a claim given their refusal to pay our small claim.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we apologize for the frustration you have experienced.
I have consulted with our claims team to gather further details about your case. It appears that your claim was denied because a physician did not confirm your diagnosis during your trip, which is a requirement under the policy.
The Emergency Medical benefit is designed to reimburse medical expenses when emergency treatment is required due to an accidental injury or Sickness. Medical documentation from a licensed Physician certifying the sickness or injury is a requirement of the policy.
I understand this has been a lengthy and frustrating process for you, and apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome.
Hello, I have purchased several travel insurance packages from Squaremouth over the years in which Tin Leg was the preferred provider. I have NOT filed any claims w/Squaremouth/carriers. During our recent trip to South Africa, our Tour Company, Gate1, recommended that travelers take malaria tablets since several other places, such as Zimbabwe and Botswana, had high incidents of mosquitos and malaria. Unfortunately, malaria tablets have unpleasant side effects, such as gastro, diarrhea, bloating, and stomach issues. We purchased a Home Hosted Dinner from Gate1, prepaid, for Sept. 13, 2024 at a cost of $59/person, or $118 total. On the day of the dinner, my wife had a significant problem with diarrhea. We could NOT go to someone's house with that condition. We advised our Tour Manager that we had to cancel, he agreed, but said we would forfeit our payment since it is not refundable. We filed a claim for this $118 based on advise from a friend who had a similar experience while traveling through Thailand, Cambodia, and Viet Nam and her travel insurance carrier paid the claim in a relatively quick and simple process.
My experience with Tin Leg with this claim has been a source of frustration. It would have been easier to file a medical claim IF my wife had an appendectomy or broken a leg with costs in thousands of dollars. We would have the medical records and documents that were associated with such cases. I understand your rep's needs for such documents in the event of a major medical problem. This case required using common sense in adjudicating the claim. We cannot provide medical records. We are extremely disappointed in how this case is being processed, and will just chalk up our loss of $118 as extremely poor customer service.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for being a loyal customer over the years. We sincerely regret that your recent experience with this claim has been frustrating, especially during what we understand was an already challenging situation on your trip.
In reviewing your claim, we want to clarify that the travel insurance policy provides coverage for certain medical expenses under specific conditions. According to the terms of your policy, a claim must involve a “Covered Sickness” that is treated or diagnosed by a physician at the time of illness and requires medically necessary services. While we empathize with the unfortunate situation your wife faced, the policy does require medical documentation from a licensed physician at the location in order to process claims for medical-related cancellations or interruptions. We understand your frustration with needing to submit medical documents to support your claim. Due to insurance regulations, certain documentation is required. We understand that this may seem strict, but these guidelines are in place to maintain fairness and consistency for all our customers.
We regret that this situation has caused you inconvenience and hope this explanation clarifies the basis of our decision. We value your business and feedback and will use it to improve our services and communication. I understand this has been a lengthy and frustrating process for you, and apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome.
Purchasing the Tin Leg policy was very easy online. The customer service agents were very helpful as we needed to make a couple of changes in the months prior to the trip. Knowing our trip was protected helped make our trip so much more relaxing. We did not need use the policy but will certainly use Tin Leg to protect future trips.
So far, it's definitely a better experience than another company I dealt with in 2022. I am hopeful that the claim will go through quickly.
Customer service was helpful in assisting me in picking the best policy for my needs
The customer representatives is spoke with were very help in pointing me to the Tinleg.com website to file a claim. I spoke with different people but Tim pointed me in the right direction.
Your agents are always helpful and take time to help us find the best policies for our trips.
On the day of departure I remembered that my return flight had had to be changed after National Geographic Tours had cancelled part of our vacation but that I had forgotten to change the date of our return on the policy. Although the first agent I spoke with said nothing could be done as I had called on the day of departure, I had requested a callback and when I received that call the new agent asked for proof of the cancellation and a copy of the new itinerary. I provided those and was informed two days later that the insurance had been extended to cover the new return date (5 days later than the original). Although the insurance was not invoked as the trip went smoothly, the time extension was appreciated. Two thoughts--thanks for the service and also, make sure to speak with a supervisor and do not simply accept the decision rendered by the first agent one talks with.
