Trawick customers appreciate the value for money offered by the policies and the ease of modifying them before a trip. However, some travelers report difficulty reaching customer service, particularly after filing a claim.

I called CS to ask about the physician documentation requirement in the event a claim was filed due to medical reason. The policy specifically states “Physician”, but my family ***’s are a nurse practitioner and physician assistant. Originally I was told it had to be a medical doctor. After asking the CS rep to please check and verify that was correct, I was then told a PA and/or NP would be sufficient.

We got the insurance specifically because of Covid. When we got to the airport, we needed to go for a covid test as Belize will not let you in unless you test negative for covid. My husband, who never had any symptoms, tested positive. In disbelief he tested a second time, again positive. At this point, as I have never actually used the travel insurance I have bought in the past, I started making phone calls to cancel stuff. I called Trawick and they told me even though my husband had a certified positive test result that he would need a doctor's note. I personally found that ridiculous, but ok. Since the airport we fly out of is 4 hours from our home, we returned the following day. I called Trawick again to get some more information and they proceed to tell me that if the resort and/or flights offered any credit for future use that the policy is null and void! This was a group trip that 6 of us had planned for, the other 4 people were able to go. I have no idea when or if we could do this trip again. We had some a room that we reserved as a group, how do I do that again if the others already went? And I couldn't cancel that room as the others still went. I was extremely upset that even if I waited for the credit to expire, that I still could not file a claim. I am really wondering what the point of the insurance was, when it said if you have to cancel for covid it is 100% refundable, well that was BS. So needless to say, not too happy.

As we approached our departure date of 1/19/22, I got more and more worried about traveling with covid so I took out a policy to cover our flight fares and our share of the condo we would be sharing with friends. I tried to call numerous times and was put on hold for long periods of time on 1/14. Never got through. You are closed on weekends. You also were closed on MLK Day. During that time we found one of our friends with whom we would be staying came down with covid. I have asthma and my husband has Parkinson's Disease so we did not want to knowingly travel into a covid situation. Although our friend was at the end of his illness, his wife was expecting to contract it any day. We aborted our trip. I have tried to call, submit information via email, to file a claim. I did print off a claims report but it indicates, as I read it, that we must submit proof of covid by our friend. He did a home test and did not know he would have to produce documentation so never went to the County Health Dept. in Key West. We have no proof that he had covid except that he and a couple other relatives who were staying in Key West with our friends (before we were to arrive) got covid sick, too. We did not go to Florida as we had hoped to because of Covid. We did not have it but our friend with whom we were to be staying had it.

I was able to "bank" our air fare of about $600 but we are out about $2684 for the condo rental. Our policy was for $3200.

My policy number is Trawick 1286898 purchased on 1/11/22.

Due to COVID issues our Cuba trip was postponed until March 26 - April 5, 2022. I transferred the travel insurance policy to those new dates with Trawick. I could not reach SquareMouth. And Trawick was unavailable by phone as well, although they did finally call me back.

Our experience thus far has been very poor. We filed a claim. We're supposed to be able to see our claim online. We don't. The insurer's website doesn't even recognize us as a customer. Super-long hold times for insurer's customer service. Trawick customer service simply directs us to the insurer's customer service. We will have to contact our state's insurance department if we don't hear anything soon.

I was frustrated by not being able to receive an update on my claim status. In theory, I should have been able to check the claim status on the claim administrator's website, but I never saw the claim status posted and was unable to contact the claim administrator. Ultimately, the claim got paid and I am thankful for that but it took longer than expected and, not knowing the claim status, I was concerned the whole time that it would not get paid.

Trawick customer service completely accommodated re-scheduling my policy when my trip got postponed at the last minute. It was a big ask they really didn't have to comply with but did. Kudos to Trawick!
