Trawick customers appreciate the value for money offered by the policies and the ease of modifying them before a trip. However, some travelers report difficulty reaching customer service, particularly after filing a claim.
Had to cancel due to war in Israel.
I could not go on the trip to the Galapagos for health reasons. I completed and submitted all required forms including the Attending Physician Statement wherein my physician certified that my medical condition disabled me from travelling. I received a communication from the claim adjuster at Trawick stating that my form was incomplete ( it wasn't) and that additional information was required. I responded that the form was completely filled out and that I was entitled to insurance payment because my medical condition was one that "commences, worsens, or presents new symptoms " while the policy was in effect. I was diagnosed with coccydenia (tailbone pain) on or about September 11, 2023 and it continues to plague me to this day making sitting extremely painful. I could not travel on an airplane for 7 hours to and from Ecuador in my current condition and therefore I was unable to do this trip to the Galapago. I have made a claim for the cost of the trip (but not the air fare) which was $8445.00. So far I have received no response to my recent communications with Trawick and I am very disappointed because I paid for this insurance and I satisfied the requirements to recover my trip cost.
When I called Trawick to inquire about my claim status they called back and told me that Trawick had approved my claim (no qualifiers) and that I could expect a check to be sent that Friday or the next Monday; however, when I received my check ten days later it shorted me $656.51 of the $3834.05 submitted, citing "Foreign Currency Conversion." I had provided all documentation that indicated what the trip cost in British Pounds and the resulting charge to my credit card in American dollars, verified by my credit card bill. MY LOSS is based on what I paid, and as Trawick is now refunding me for MY LOSS, it should be based on the loss incurred not on a substitute conversion rate, as explained to me by customer service, especially as they are not manipulating currencies (their claim department is in Tampa, Florida and I was told the check was issued from their St. Louis office). To cite "Foreign Currency Conversion" as the reason for partial denial of claim (the customer service person cited the rate was different on the date of cancellation letter) is technically irrelevant to my claim as it is based on MY LOSS and this Insurance Agency is not changing currencies to fulfill my claim. This response is manipulative at best, hoping we won't notice and be happy with a partial refund, but also suggests an intent to defraud customers!!
In addition, the difference in exchange rate on 7/25/23, when I made the final payment, and 10/25/23, the date they quote as the letter of cancellation, is 1.2247... and 1.2902... there is no way this equals over $600!!!!!! Do these people know how to do math or do they just give a partial figure and hope we will accept it. Trawick should be trashed forever and removed as an option from Square Mouth as they have proven themselves to be shady and illegitimate.
Fast, easy and responsive to questions.
The claim was processed and paid but the time to process seemed unusually long well over 2 months. A different claim with Generali was processed in about a month which I consider a more appropriate time frame.
Information from Trawick customer service people was minimal. The claim form was digital and it was extremely difficult to fill in all the fields due to formatting and spacing issues. Further, it appears that the claim was approved for almost 4 weeks before I was informed. I had to call Squaremouth to learn that the claim was approved. I was told that the “check was in the mail” and that we would receive it within a specified time. The check did not arrive. I was told by - again Squaremouth - that the check would be “Reissued.” I did get email acknowledgments from Trawick of items I submitted electronically. That was likely due to an auto-reply feature. Overall it all worked out with the claim but the process was “clunky” and unpredictable.
A lot of paperwork was involved but satisfied with the outcome
Due to the War in Israel we were unable to go on trip that we were to leave on November 8th and return on the 17th. The airports were closed and even the Pope advised not to go.
There will not be another trip for me.
In many years of traveling, I’ve never had to make a travel insurance claim. I always assumed it would be onerous at best and likely to not be accepted. And though it did take a bit of work to gather all the documents, with the added challenge of translating a hospital report from Finnish to England, our claim was processed within about a month and all the claims were reimbursed. Thank you Trawick/John Hancock.m
It took two months for the claim to be processed and for us to receive a settlement check. The online site to check the claim's progress was unuseable. Customer service gave us little information until the last stages of claim processing. The final settlement was the correct amount, though.
