This was the worst experience i have ever had with travel insurance. My claim for only $240 in lost flight after a cancelled trip was denied. I will never use this company again. Horrible scam.
This is a copy of the pertinent portions of our claim cover letter sent to Nationwide. They rejected our claim because our flight was cancelled prior to the beginning of our trip:
RE: Policy No. 1308542
CLAIM #98377
Dear Agents:
Enclosed are the forms and documentation you requested in your email dated 02-08-2022.
On Feb. 05, 2022, we received notice from Silver Airways that our outbound flight from Jacksonville Florida to Fort Lauderdale, FL, on March 04 was cancelled. This was the first leg of our flight from Jacksonville to Key West. Upon arrival in Key West we are flying on Seaplane Adventures to the Dry Tortugas early on March 05 and back to Jacksonville on American Airlines that night. Our return flights on American Airlines are non-refundable. Because Silver Airways had no other outbound options for us, they agreed to refund the full cost of the outbound tickets from Jacksonville to Key West, which was $238.38.
If we were unable to fly to Key West in time to make our Seaplane flight, it would then be necessary to cancel the return American flight and we would have lost $377.20 for this flight and would have made a trip cancellation claim in this amount plus any other reservations that were non-refundable.
We preferred to salvage our travel plans and we made new reservations on American Airlines to fly from Jacksonville to Key West to salvage our seaplane flight. The cost of these outbound tickets was $477.20. We request payment of the difference between our new American Airlines outbound tickets ($477.20) and the original outbound ticket cost from Silver Airways ($238.38). This difference equals $238.82, the amount of our claim.
We tried to confirm that this approach was acceptable to you in our call to Trawick on February 8, 2022. Your agent said we had to submit a claim and you were receiving many claims due to air cancellations. We had to purchase new airline tickets immediately to ensure we obtained reservations and therefore proceeded in good faith of your approval.
The agent answered my questions completely and fully.
There was a 1 day delay due to the Hurricane closing the ports in Ft. Lauderdale , Fl and a loss of one Island visit and a scheduled tour.
I emailed Tarwick International and requested a claim form and received an acknowledging email of receipt. The email stated not to reply and they would get back with a claim form. This email was received on11/14/22 and I have not heard anything else. Please advise of the recourse I should take.
.
I am delighted that we were able to get a full refund for the trip we missed. It encourages me to use Trawick International again as a travel insurer.
I never received a response as to whether I had a claim, was never asked about it after my initial query. As far as I could tell no one ever looked at the claim, not provided any information on it.
We submitted a claim by mail. How that claim gets resolved will further impact how I feel about my experience. I look forward to discussing and resolving the claim. Thx!
Stephanie with Trawick was awesome. She documented my flight interruption and was very professional and very pleased to help me. I would recommend Trawick 100 per cent.
Customer service was unable to confirm that my physician verified COVID-19 antigen test and symptoms were sufficient proof of COVID-19 illness for a successful claim. They said a PCR test at a clinic or hospital would be sufficient, but he could not tell me if the considerable cost of getting a PCR test and the transportation required would also be covered in the claim. They said all such decisions would be made by a claims officer, but I needed to submit a claim before I could get any such decision. He also was no help at resolving the dilemma that to get the PCR test would require violation of both CDC and Israeli Ministry of Health quarantine requirements and expose many other people to COVID. It was a frustratingly circular argument where I felt that I had a choice between risking a failed claim because of insufficient evidence of COVID-19 illness, or $300 in out of pocket expenses to get a redundant PCR test (that they may or may not pay for) and exposing many other people to COVID. The call was unhelpful and unsatisfying.
They were quick at answering my questions and making sure I only paid for the insurance that I required.
