    Customers absolutely MUST READ THE SMALL PRINT AND EVEN HIRE AN ATTORNEY before purchasing travel insurance like this.. We cancelled our trip during the first deposit period which was documented with medical evidence and our claim was denied twice. You have to die or have someone go to the morgue to get any kind of refund. We were asking for the bare minimum ($500) refund on a nearly $5,000 premium policy. I hope Aegis, like many insurance companies, enjoy collecting their premiums and never paying off --- what a scam industry.

    I'm very happy with Aegis. Our trip was interrupted. The initial contact to file a claim was easy. Within two days, I emailed all support files and the claim form. I waited two weeks per instructions, never heard anything, called and was told that the email never arrived. The person on that call asked that I send an email while we were on the phone which I did, and it proved that there wasn't an obstacle to my email reaching Aegis. That day I sent an email and fax again with all documentation again. Two days later I was informed that our flights wouldn't be covered because they didn't go to our home state even though I provided documentation that my sister in law passed away in another state. I found this to be incredibly insensitive to have provided the sad documentation of our trip documentation and to be denied. So I sent documentation that I work for American Airlines and did not need to buy the tickets from Texas to Florida where we live. Still I did not hear back, so I called tonight and was told it is still under review.

    I will never buy this insurance again. I have had to work more than Aegis has to get any kind of communication, Interesting that replies are non existent or when inaccurate dragging on so I need to take incentive each time. Is this the company model to have the clients work so much for their policy covered claim that they're mad and exhausted?

    We were able to reach out to the adjusters and inquire on your adjudication and appeal. We were advised there was a partial settlement under Trip Interruption for your unused land portion. We then requested a further review. The Appeal was overturned by way of a Carrier Exception for additional coverage of your flights. The hotel and rental car were not provided the same exception, as the policy expires once you return home. Since your arrival in Dallas marked the end of your trip, these expenses are not eligible for coverage.

    Our return flight was canceled by United Airlines due to the closure of the Houston airport due to the historic storm that dumped 7-10 inches of snow across the US Gulf Coast. The soonest United could rebook us on a return flight was in four days. We were able to book a flight on American Airlines for the next day and had to spend an extra night in Buenos Aires. We will be submitting a claim for the airfare and extra night stay.

    I was disappointed to learn that I could not extend my policy, except for medical reasons, or buy a new one for an extension of my stay in Europe. I had to spend part of my extended vacation shopping around elsewhere for a policy. It would have so much easoer to just at least buy it from you, even if my reason was non-medical.

    Easy to buy the policy. Filing the claim has been a bit bumpy as we went back and forth with the doctor's note instead of the insurance providing a form for the medical team to complete. Claim is in-process now so hope they have all they need.

    Once the claim was opened, it processed and paid quickly. However, the process to OPEN the claim was difficult.

    Aegis required a note from the doctor and I had to go back and forth between the doctor and insurance to get the exact information Aegis wanted in the note. I also needed a note from the travel agent that the lodging was non-refundable despite the rental contract stating that. Once Aegis was satisfied with all this documentation, they THEN opened the claim and send a form...that needed to be completed/signed by the doctor. This was my mother's doctor and in the midst of her terminal care, it was frustrating that I had to continue asking for letters/signatures for travel insurance.

Trip Cancellation due to Medical reasons always have a section for the treating physician to complete. If a note from the physician is submitted and has all of the needed information, it may be accepted in liu of the form. We apologize for any miscommunication and inconvenience this may have caused. Once all of the documentation was received the review was completed and proper adjudication was made in a timely manner.

    Fortunately the family member for whom I purchased this policy did not need to make a claim or use any of the services while we were away on a family vacation. I did contact customer service to change the date that coverage would begin and it went very smoothly. I always use Squaremouth for travel insurance and I have bought policies issued by several companies through the years. My experience has always been good.

    It's always a 5 star process buying insurance, it's when you want to file a claim and get reimbursement that might be problematic. In this case, I did need to file a claim for an injury that occurred outside the U.S. I knew in advance that Medicare would not cover it, but was surprised that my medigap policy would cover a portion of the costs. Once those had been quickly recovered from Mutual of Omaha, then I filed with the Aegis/Zurich travel policy. The carrier emailed me a very simple claim form and I followed the instructions to the letter. They responded within a couple of weeks with a full payment of the remainder of my costs. Everything fully covered with medigap and travel insurance. Thank you Squaremouth, Aegis and Zurich for coming to my assistance so efficiently!
