The pre-departure experience with Generali seemed to be higher than 2 stars at the time, because they made me feel that they would be there if I needed them. That was deception.
I got sick with COVID while in Venice, Italy. I contacted Generali Assistance for guidance and a list of approved providers, if any. I was given a list of 3 physicians: one in Florence (3 hr away by car), one in Rome (5+ hr away by car), and one in Sicily (for God's sake, are they serious?) When I pointed the distances out to the incompetent person at Generali who suggested them, she replied, "I'll make a note of that in your file." That is the extent of all the help I got from Generali.
Generali is the worst insurer I have ever dealt with. They should not be allowed to issue policies, because they obviously have no intention of ever acting on their insured's behalf. No one should even consider buying a policy from Generali, and, for that matter, I will not likely ever use Squaremouth again, either.

I unfortunately had to file a claim and the company responded very quickly. My claim was handled in a timely manner and I am very pleased with this company. I will be using them for any future travel.

The claim was paid out as expected. It would have been nice if Generali Global Assistance had acknowledged receipt of information they requested.

It was not easy to communicate with them, in that everything is online and no humans were readily available to talk to. BUT we are happy they reimbursed us the full amount of our trip! I would say the claim process overall was very satisfactory!
The 24-hour service while traveling was inadequate. I needed medical advice (part of the service) and was disconnected 3 times. When I finally got through, I was told they don't deal with my medical issue. Wasted 90 minutes of my time and was left with no advice.
I filed a claim on July 6. They asked for 3 additional documents (2 of which I already supplied) on July 11, 2022, which I supplied and got confirmation they were sent (including the two I had already provided) on that day. Today is July 16th and as I had not heard from them I checked the dashboard and didn't see the additional documents so I uploaded them again.
I have no idea when this case will be resolved. There is little to no correspondence and their dashboard is lacking in status.
