Many Generali customers appreciate the fast and easy online claims process, with many highlighting how quickly they receive reimbursement. However, some customers find the claims portal and the provider’s automated phone system difficult to navigate.

The experience was fine. However, I had some technical issues with the site while filing a claim and could not reach anyone for assistance. The issue resolved itself the following day.

The process to file the claim online was a little confusing at first. Maybe because I was doing it on my phone. But, once filed, it was processed quickly. Thanks!

When buying the coverage, I was confused, so I called customer service. They told me I was correct and hat purchased twice the coverage I needed. They promptly fixed the order and corrected the billing. Very friendly and efficient. Luckily I did not need the insurance but I had the piece of mind that it was there if I needed it.

When you pay a lot for no coverage..l
I paid almost $1000 dollars for insurance coverage for a cruise for two.

At the end of this email is a summary of benefits I was sent, showing what I had coverage for. The cruise ship decided to cancel our sailing the day before we were to board due to increasing cases of Covid. We were in Argentina, preparing to fly from Buenos Aires to Ushuia when we got the email, cancelling our cruise.

It was upsetting to have spent the time and money to book and travel to Argentina, but I thought at least the travel insurance covered our expenses.

It turns out our nightmare was just beginning. I had insured the trip through Generali Global Assistance. They have the tagline in their email that states 'Yes we CARE.' No they do not.

You can only file a claim online with no human intervention.
Generali hires a third party administrator to decide if your claim is valid or not. I'm sure they are paid to deny claims. There is no way to talk to a supervisor or Generali itself.
It is almost impossible to talk to your claims representative. I am sure they are overworked but imagine it from my perspective.
Lastly, my insurance claim was denied, because they offer NO Covid coverage. Even though the summary (see below) explicitly said I was covered, I was told the policy (written by lawyers) excluded all covid claims.
So if you are willing to pay for a premium policy for trip insurance that will never pay out, Generali travel insurance is for you. As their emails state, 'Yes we CARE' I would add 'about OURSELVES.'

    Response from Generali Global Assistance

Hello Thomas. We’re sorry to hear of your frustration. Airline or cruise changes to schedules and destinations due to virus outbreaks are not one of the covered events listed in our policies. Like other insurance plans you may have, travel insurance cannot cover everything, so it’s important that you read and understand your Description of Coverage/Policy, made available to you before and after purchase. The basic GGA100 policy was purchased so there was no Cancel For Any Reason upgrade.

I had no idea so much documentation was going to be needed to submit our claims. I did read the contract before purchase and cautioning about the need to save all receipts related to the claims may be in there, but I didn't notice it. Suggest you make a bigger effort to advise customers about the need to save documentation that might be needed if one has to make a claim. That aside, we are very pleasex with Generali;, you lived up to our expectations, expectations based on positive reviews we read.

The Global assistance person on the phone was great .
However , the only communication I have had from them is an email
Saying a claims person would contact me in about 30days , because they are very busy .

I sent some required paper work to them by email
But , do not know if they received it or if I’m on the list for a claim rep .
    I will call them again

    Review Updated: 06/23/2022

I first called Generalli insurance when my husband tested positive for Covid on the day before our flight home to USA . I was informed then of what type of paperwork would be needed to substantiate our claim. I was also told that I would be assigned a claim person but that it could take 30 days to hear from them as they were very busy . We ended up staying 9 days at an airport hotel until we could return .My husband got a Covid test from the pharmacy in the airport which provided us with evidence to support our claim .
When I returned home ,I called Generalli ,the person said they had no record of my phone call. He left the call and did some research and told me to send in the needed documents .
I never did get a claim person assigned to me . However , I emailed all the evidence to them and was reimbursed in about 30 days
The policy was for 4,000 up to 5,000 . We were paid 2,500
We actually turned in 3,200 worth of receipts . I guessed that maybe food was not covered

I contacted COVID while on my trip and we tried to contact the Generali 24 hour emergency line but could not get through to them. After three tries we gave up.
