My sister and I often use square mouth and generali for our long international trips. This is the first time I’ve ever had to file a claim. She filed first for the same issue-a nonrefundable hotel night due to numerous Air India flight cancellations and changes because of the war. She was reimbursed by Generali, and I was not for the exact same thing. When I submitted these facts to customer service they didn’t even explain this inconsistency. They just denied it again. Poor customer relations and for a small sum of money when you pay close to $500 for the insurance for these type of trips.

Generali has been extraordinarily helpful and supportive. I needed hospitalization seven days into our twenty-day cruise. Generali coordinated everything, including business/first class flights from Panama to Seattle and a driver to take us to the airport in Panama and then home from the airport in Seattle. Fantastic service!

My husband had multiple micro-hemorragic brain bleeds before our scheduled trip. He was medically unable to fly and we cancelled the trip. I wrote Generali 4 days after the full refund cancellation date, asking if they would consider a full or partial refund. They never responded. The fact that they failed to reply was both negligent and dismissive. My actual rating for them is zero stars. While I have used the company in the past, I never will again. Nor would I recommend them to anyone.

I have had type 2 Diabetes for the past 30 years. For some years recently I have taken both oral medications plus daily insulin. I have had occasional mild low blood sugar events but none as serious as the one I experienced in the early morning hours when I was supposed to be taking a taxi to the airport to fly to the port where I was to start my 21 day cruise. My adult child found me incoherent, on the floor and barely able to move at 5:00 am. He started me on orange juice and checked my blood sugar, which was at 60 after the first cup. It took another couple of hours to get it over 100, by which time I had missed my flight. I was extremely tired and slept most of the day.
What I didn't realize was that the insurance would not pay my claim nor even consider it because I did not call for an ambulance nor did I go to my doctor. I did neither because my child and I both recognized that I was experiencing low blood sugar and knew how to handle it.
My doctor confirmed with Global that I had Type 2 Diabetes, treated with medication and insulin, and that I knew how to handle these rare events. She also confirmed that this was the most severe low blood sugar that I had ever had, with longer lasting effects than previous incidents.
But Global basically said if I didn't go in to see a doctor, I wasn't covered. $5000+ down the drain.

Our trip was delayed by a day due to the Lufthansa strike, so we weren’t able to use our first hotel night in Sardinia. By that point in time, the hotel cost was no longer refundable. After returning home, I spent half an hour submitting an online claim, and within a day and a half the cost of the lost night had been paid and deposited into my checking account.
