Many Generali customers appreciate the fast and easy online claims process, with many highlighting how quickly they receive reimbursement. However, some customers find the claims portal and the provider’s automated phone system difficult to navigate.
First, they didn't email me the policy details until I had to ask again after we departed. We didn't use their assistance during the trip, but filed a claim a week after we got back.
Our passports were stolen on the trip, causing us to delay returning by 2 days, because of the time to travel to where the embassy is and get emergency passports. We filed a claim for the transfer (taxi) cost and hotel/food cost for those couple of days. (We were able to rearrange our return flight without additional cost.). We filed the claim over 2 months ago and have only received the auto-reply acknowledging the online submission. I emailed 2 weeks ago asking about it and...nothing. I expect some response, even to say they are still working on, to give a time frame, to ask for more info, whatever. So, as I plan my next trip I won't be using them.

I would give 0 stars if it were an option. Generali has very narrow definitions of what they consider to be a valid claim. A tour operator canceled a trip and generali would not pay out on a claim. Trip insurance is the greatest scam. It is not worth buying due to the narrowness of how they define instances they will pay under. A country closed its doors and it was not possible to visit because the country would not let you in is not a good enough reason for Genrali to pay.
What a waste of money to purchase this policy. If you used Squaremouth to purchase this this through they do not stand by the product they offer and their zero complaint policy is a joke.

I was very frustrated with Generali when we got home and first started filling out the claim form online. The form kept freezing so we couldn't get it filled out and when one contacts Generali by phone or email it's impossible to get through to an agent or even a voicemail to describe the problem. After a couple of days the form remained available throughout our input of the claims information. So we have submitted the claim and it was confirmed but we have not been contacted since.

My suitcase was damaged beyond repair on the journey between our home and Cape Town, South Africa, and filed a claim with our air carrier. I was informed that it might take 4 to 6 weeks to resolve that claim, so I contacted the insurance company to find out how long I have to file a claim with them in case the airline does not pay my claim. I was told that 90 days to file is preferable but that legally I have up to one year. As soon as I get the results from the air carrier, I will either consider the matter closed or I will file a claim with the insurance company.
Otherwise, everything went well on the trip and we have no other claims.

Generali website has not functioned for us yet. We have tried to complete a claim but website would not allow uploading supporting expense material, did not allow work to be saved, did not give error number on error message to provide when tried to report problem to Generali

Horrible. Their automated phone service is not user-friendly. It's not easy to figure out which option to choose and there is no option to talk to a representative. You are not told their hours and I was put on hold (optioned for a call-back) when there was no intention of a call back on a Sunday - yet, nowhere are you informed of this. In desperation, I called the emergency number just to try to find someone to speak to. Very frustrating. When under stress, you would think this process would be made easy for the consumer. Not this company.
Filing a claim - horrible. The FAQ section will answer your question, but it doesn't tell you what to do about it. For example, when I tried to upload the documents they asked for, I got an "error" message. It took me hours to figure out that I had to scan and enter one page at a time. Apparently, it only accepts a small amount of information....I still don't know. All around frustrating. I will never use this company again. I have not heard back from the claim but I will ask Squaremouth for assistance if needed.
