John Hancock customers praise the provider for their helpful customer service, especially when modifying existing policies. Some customers report slow communication and time-consuming paperwork when filing a claim.
I was assisted very well when I file for a claim regarding a 24 hours delay and had to stay in the international airport terminal at the San Francisco Airport during my personal recent trip overseas. I was grateful for the assistance to me.
John Hancock provided us with a fair price for the specific kinds of insurance we were looking to purchase. We did not file a claim so I only have the interaction with them on purchasing the policy. We appreciate all the benefits covered within the policy.
I have had a 5 star experience up until it came time to file a claim. My boyfriend and I traveled together to Ecuador. We both missed our connecting flight on the way home due to weather and had to spend a day in Miami. I filed the claim information that was sent to me after speaking with the customer service agent by phone. My boyfriend filed his claim online. He received his compensation about 2 days after filing. I'm going on 2 weeks, and have had to resubmit information. We sent in the exact information.
My experience now has gone down to 2-3 stars, and it's getting lower every day. This is really inconsistent service, something you guys should check into.

Had help understanding policies and coverage, well explained by agent, gave me peace of mind for my entire trip.
They ask for receipts as evidences of what I had to spent due to baggage delay. They don’t understand that there are no receipts when people buy something in Vietnam.
My trip was cancelled due to the aircraft trouble and therefore, I could not make it to my destination.
When I spoke with John Hancock agent, he was very helpful and understanding. He confirmed that I can file a claim and send me a form.
I submitted the form and attached all relevant information two weeks ago however, I have not heard back from them. I don't even have a confirmation from them that they did received my claim or the status.
Very easy process. I just completed the reimbursement form, emailed copies of my receipts and received a check about 10 days later. They were very helpful and emailed me to let me know what was going on every step of the way.
I contacted them to increase coverage after purchasing the policy - very helpful customer service. Interestingly, John Hancock was one of the few policies suitable for us as an unmarried couple. Berkshire Hathaway and a few others required that people on the same policy be “related” to each other.
I wanted to file a claim for luggage delay, but was told it wasn’t covered going home. This was unfortunate because I had another trip the day after I returned home and had to buy more luggage.
I became very sick in Manila, Philippines with a severe cold on Dec 26th.
The next day, I called the 24 hour telephone number provided with my policy to inquire about seeing a doctor.
The representative said she would email a list of doctors/medical providers she said the insurance company recommended based on its records.
No such email was ever received.
Needless to say, this was a big disappointment.
In the end, the hotel provided a medical professional from the nearby Resorts World Casino.
However, the fact remains that the promised email from the representative I spoke with was never received, and had this been a more severe situation than a very bad cold, this omission could’ve been more impactful in negative ways.
This omission needs to be reviewed with the representative I spoke with, and should NEVER happen again.
Sincerely,
Howard Miller
