We were in Belize when Tropical Storm Earl strengthened into Hurricane Earl. We were told by the hotel that evacuation was voluntary, but that they recommended it. I tried to call the emergency number for Seven Corners, but I could not manage to call them collect from Belize. When I did briefly get through by calling direct, I was connected to an automated attendant. I was not able to stay on the call long enough to reach a live person. Because of our inability to reach a live person at Seven Corners to get instructions on evacuating, we were forced to stay in our beachfront room and endure 8 hours of storm surge and 80 mph winds, which included debris from destroyed businesses on the docks hitting our room. It was terrifying. Then when I called Seven Corners when I returned, I was told that forms would be emailed to me within 24 hours, which never happened. I had to call again, and spoke with another agent. I explained to her what happened to us, and she emailed me trip interruption forms, which were the wrong forms. I am beyond frustrated. I want compensation for staying in a room that had water coming in the windows, then enduring over 24 hours without power in 95 degree heat. We also did not have food or beverage for 24 hours. I also want compensation for not being able to use most of the hotels amenities for the remainder of our stay. For example, the pools were breached by the storm surge and not safe for swimming.
