  • Tin Leg policy: Gold

No problems with this policy. I have filed a claim on an earlier Tin Leg policy which went smoothly. I have used Tin Leg frequently. I have tried to change a policy on one trip that was cancelled to another trip, and Tin Leg will allow and help you do that, but be aware that you need to be in an "insurable" condition when you change or initiate a travel insurance policy. That is, no current health problems and with pre-existing conditions under medical control. Otherwise the insurance company can deny claims. So I get a letter from my doctor stating that I am in a healthy condition for travel before I apply for a policy.

For example: I came back from my previous trip to Bali with Covid. No biggie, $20 for a test kit and some rest. No claim required. But the fact of Covid infection would put me in an "uninsurable" category for applying for a new travel policy unless the Covid was resolved to non-infection. And being in an "uninsurable' category applying for a new policy would make the policy void if I had to file a claim.
    Just saying.

    Tin Leg policy: Platinum

The process of filing a claim with Tin Leg was very straightforward. It took about two weeks for my claim to be paid out after submitting the relevant receipts and documentation. This was the first travel-insurance claim I have ever filed and I'm happy to say it was a much smoother experience than I expected. Because of that, I would purchase Tin Leg travel and health insurance policies in the future.

My flight was delayed more than 3 hours and because I paid for a hotel with points I was not reimbursed. I wish that was more clear in the beginning. Last minute points have value just like money.

I gave up on pursuing my claim because you were asking me to prove a negative which is nearly impossible. Try to prove that Airbnb did not refund me a night’s stay? Huh? Prove that a flight was cancelled? How do I do that? Never will I use Tin Leg again. Will go back to AIG where they try to help you recover your losses not set up roadblocks to doing so.

    Response from Tin Leg

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you had with the claim process.
I have discussed your claim with our claim team to gather more information about your claim. I understand that your claim is still in process and we require additional documents. In reference to you needing to "prove a negative"- your Airbnb booking confirmation which shows the cancellation terms and conditions would suffice. We apologize if that was not made clear. Other documents needed include your original flight itinerary, as well as contacting the airline directly to obtain the airline explanation. This is a common request to the airlines for travel insurance claims and they should be able to assist fairly easily.
I understand your frustration with needing to submit multiple documents to support your claim. Due to insurance regulations, certain documentation is required. Rest assured, we will do our best to expedite the process.
Your claim adjuster is available to assist with any questions in the meantime. We appreciate your patience and hope to make the process smoother for you moving forward.

Purchasing the insurance and getting questions answered went smoothly. Since I didn't need to make a claim, this was my only contact.

    Tin Leg policy: Basic

This is the 6th time I have purchased travel insurance through Squaremouth, and the 3rd or 4th policy with Tin Leg, who is now my go-to carrier for travel insurance. It is enormously reassuring to know that I am supported by an outfit that will, should I need to file a claim (as I have once), facilitate and expedite a fair and smooth resolution to my challenges and, when I do not need to file a claim (as was the case in this most recent travel experience), I am able to enjoy my travel and return home safely without ever having to think about the possible crisis of financial or other stressors that might have presented themselves unexpectedly. I traveled at all times in full confidence of my insurance choice, which has its own great value.

    Tin Leg policy: Standard

I filed a claim because our trip, a cruise, was cancelled after two days. I called TinLeg when arriving home and the agent was very helpful with the preliminary information needed.
I have not gotten into the claims process beyond the above, nor talked with a claims specialist yet.
    The process is just beginning.

    Tin Leg policy: Luxury

Squaremouth customer service provided helpful and informative guidance to help me select the travel policy that met my needs. In comparison to other travelers I spoke to, I believe I paid a lot less for my Tin Leg policy
and was comfortable with the coverage I chose.
Gratefully, I did not have to make a claim.

    Tin Leg policy: Gold

I believe that the only useful reviews of insurance companies are from customers who actually had to file claims. Their experiences of dealing with the claim process and how easy or hard it was to resolve the claim is what is important. I gave Tin Leg a 5 star review of the pre-trip experience but readers should not use that as any indication as to whether Tin Leg is a good insurance company since I did not submit a claim.
