Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
I liked the ease of searching for a policy and comparing different ones. I do not like all of the different verbiage used in different policies. I called several times before purchasing to get explanation of coverage. I find travel insurance to be a little “scammish” in that it is very specific of what is covered and not covered. If you ask about a scenario and if it is covered, the answer will be “it depends.” The reviews for the claim process tend to be not great. In the end, I did not have to make a claim.
Working with Tin Leg was great. I requested several changes which were made right away and when our trip got rescheduled you were able to transfer our coverage to the new trip without any increase in premium. Great customer service. This is our second policy with you and we will continue to use you for our future travel needs.
I expected a few hurdles to get a refund from an insurance company, but overall the experience was good
The degree of documentation requested has gone to a disproportionate amount. I paid for travel insurance for a specific trip. They are requesting details for itinerary and flight information that is irrelevant to the claim. I paid x amount, and because of flight cancelation I had to pay y amount. Insurance should cover the difference in my opinion. There requests are obstructionist and meant to string the claim along - not settle it. After buying policies from them for years I can now see what its' really worth.
We have purchased Tin Leg insurance for several trips, but never needed to file a claim until our most recent trip out of the country. One of us needed medical attention on our trip and submitted a claim to cover the expense. The claim process was quick and easy. We will continue to make Tin Leg our first choice for travel insurance.
Although we had a legitimate trip interruption due to a flat tire, with no spare provided in the car rental, and were delayed by more than 20 hours, lost the money on a nonrefundable hotel room and spent the night in the car rental because no assistance could be provided, this did not fit your definition of trip interruption, so we feel our money on the policy was wasted and we had a false sense of security by having it.

We had a claim that was legitimately an enforceable trip interruption. Once claim was submitted, we received an email stating that there was a very good chance it would not be paid because it technically did not fit their definition of trip interruption or trip delay. I did not pursue further, because their language was such that it was going to be a waste of time to continue. Fortunately, we had purchased an Allianz policy with airline. Although their definitions were the same as TinLeg, they paid the claim quickly. Your insurance company is in the business of collecting premiums rather than taking care of the customer. This was a small claim.
it was a seamless experience
I had issues with a previous claim from IMG. They were unprofessional and oblivious to the issue. I complained through Squaremouth and the claim settled quickly thereafter. The Squaremouth mediator was fabulous. So I decided to use squaremouth again but a different company. I had a wonderful trip with no issues but had the peace of mind that I was covered if something came up. Thank you!
Great service
We had to make a claim when my 94-year-old mother-in-law was placed on hospice a few weeks before we were to take our trip. I was pleased with how quickly each piece of our claim correspondence was answered. I was pleased with the outcome. However, it was difficult to understand the specific information needed in the beginning to process my claim. For example, they asked for an itinerary. Our trip was self-planned, so we didn't have one, as we would have with a tour group. But I sent them my list of what we were going to do each day. What they really needed was all of our confirmations (airlines, hotels, etc.) that had nothing to do with our claim of a specific house rental deposit that could not be refunded when we cancelled the entire trip. It took a tremendous amount of verification to get just a $470 claim paid. The biggest difficulty was getting all of her medical records for the past SIX months to them -- which I was not able to send; they had to be sent from a physician's office. That turned out to be quite complicated. In effect, we recouped the amount we paid for the insurance but spent a tremendous amount of time doing so.
