Our claim was related to the mandatory evacuation from the Florida panhandle because of Hurricane Michael, November, 2018. Our insurance was through Tin Leg, and it was handled both efficiently and promptly. Tin Leg was familiar with Hurricane Michael, of course, and they asked very few questions, instead opting to go with the information they had and not wasting either of our times verifying information they already knew to be true. Our claim was approved within 24 hours of their receiving the supporting documentation that they asked me to send. The check arrived about a week after that. I was extremely happy with the service I got.

While in Spain, I fell on some stairs injuring my head and hip. I had to be rushed to the nearest hospital to staple the gash in my scalp and alleviate the severe vertigo. I was given an Xray to check for skull fracture and an MRI to check for brain trauma. I called TinLeg's 24-hr line to report the incident as soon as I could. I talked with Shay Moore-King,  Asst. Coordinator, who was wonderful to me! So personal and friendly. She (or another rep) replied to my every email within a very short time and told me to just concentrate on getting well. She contacted the Accounting Dept. of the hospital in the background while I was recovering from my injury. She remained as committed to giving me the best customer service as possible throughout the next weeks as I had the staples removed and had an Xray of my still-painful hip at another hospital to determine if it was possibly fractured. When I returned home, I had a phone interview with Adam Rusin to confirm the details of the accident. After that, I was emailed a claim form to finish filling out, sign and submit back to TinLeg along with supporting documentation & receipts for reimbursement. I've yet to see if all the expenses will be paid to the providers (or reimbursed to me), but to date, I recommend this trip insurance provider with the highest rating for their personal and prompt customer service while away from home.

I bought trip cancellation insurance. I bought the amount of coverage for the hotels, car and airplane flights. On the summary page provided, the trip cancellation coverage appeared to cover all trip cancellations. However, that was not true.

When my trip was cancelled, I called Tin Leg and filled out on-line forms. An appointment was scheduled with a claims representative. I explained that my trip had been cancelled by the tour operator due to financial issues with the lead scientist. I had been able to cancel the hotels and car without penalty. The airlines would not refund my tickets. The claims representative indicated that I should file a claim for the airplane flights. It was alot of paperwork, but I filed it promptly.

Within a day, Tin Leg had denied my claim. They sent some of the fine print from the multiple pages of legal jargon and said that because the tour operator cancelled the trip, the insurance did not cover it. I would understand them not covering the amount paid to the tour operator. The tour operator should and has refunded that money. However, Tin Leg did not cover the airplane flights of $2,200.

I will not buy another policy from Tin Leg. I do not believe that they will ever pay any claim. That there will always be some fine print to deny a claim.
I had bought multiple policies from them in the past over many years, but this is the first claim that I filed. I am extremely disappointed and believe that they misrepresented their coverage. If there are major exclusions, this information should be obvious and included on the summary page.

I would be happy to speak with you about this.

    Response from Tin Leg

    Hi Anna

I understand you had to cancel your trip because your tour operator canceled.

After investigating your claim, we have found that the tour was canceled due to a lack of participation on the tour, not financial default of the tour operator. Unfortunately, a tour operator canceling due to lack of participation is not covered by any travel insurance policy.

We are happy to hear that the tour operator rightfully refunded your payment. However, because your airline losses are a direct result of your tour operator canceling due to lack of participation, travel insurance is unable to provide reimbursement for your airfare.

I’m happy to discuss this further at your convenience. I’m available Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm ET, at (727) 619-7262.

My wife and I planned our active dream trip to Italy. Fives days before our departure, she fell and broke her leg. I submitted a claim and within 2 weeks I was reimbursed for my full loss. It was easy, courteous and professional. I have used Tin Leg previously and will definitely use them again. Thank you.
