I will NEVER use Tin Leg again. My traveling companion Melanie Goering became extremely ill and was unable to make the trip. Tin Leg is putting her through **** to make a claim. She is so sick that she now has a handicapped placard and is unable to go out unassisted. And yet Tin Leg continues to ask her to provide MORE and MORE "proof". I totally understand reasonable proof for a claim for any insurance. But they are asking her for totally unnecessary (and irrelevant ) things after she has provided them with mountains of verification. I have used tin leg several times, although I have never made a claim, but not only will I never use them again, I am making sure that everyone I know who travels is warned off. Travel insurance is for that rare time you need it; a good policy is not just coverage, but the ability to make a claim in a reasonable and respectful manner when it is needed.

I didn’t get the outcome I hoped for but the explanation for why it was denied was courteous and thorough. The documentation requests felt onerous.

Required a phone interview on a recorded line. You state the facts and they will file a claim and email you for proof of documents. The representative states it takes anywhere from 5 days to 15 businesses days. They will look over the documents and they may approve or disapprove all of parts of your claim.

Tin Leg required a recorded telephone interview regarding your claim that others was just submitting your paperwork. The end result was that all documented receipts were paid and it was approved. I am happy and it is the reason I buy insurance.

As I told TinLeg, this was the worse $3,489 I've ever spent on travel in over 50 years! We booked a 2-week luxury anniversary Safari. Our start was difficult. TinLeg has rejected any flight-related claim!
Our flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta was delayed 1 hour by mechanical problem. I was assured -- 3 times -- that we would still arrive in Atlanta with time to make our connecting flight to Amsterdam. Even as we boarded the Philly-Atlanta flight I was assured that we would not miss our connecting flight. But we ended up waiting on the plane at the gate for another hour -- pilot said luggage needed to be loaded.
We missed our connection in Atlanta. The 2 hour delay extended to a 5 hour delay. AND we had purchased First/Business Class tickets...but those seats were unavailable. So we flew to Amsterdam in Economy.
In Amsterdam we missed our flight to Kilimanjaro Tanzania. Delta/KLM put us on the next flight they had available --- 24 hours later. I wasn't going to spend our first day of our Safari at the Amsterdam airport, so I booked flights on Qatar. The flight was longer, again Economy Class, but we did arrive only 12 hours after our initial schedule.
Delta responded to my complaint very quickly and reimbursed us for the missed flights. They earned our approval.

TinLeg, however, has been the "claim-refusal" company. First it took nearly 5 weeks before we talked with anyone (needed to schedule an appointment with them). Its now 2 months from our trip's first days and I finally gave up - told them they won. They are rejecting any flight-related claim (our Philly-Atlanta flight was not 3 hours late, even though we missed our connection, so no coverage!) and demanding copies of our bank statement to prove that we actually paid for a $319 first night lost lodging claim. I told them to stop processing our claim. I will never recommend TinLeg or Squaremouth to anyone -- it was a total waste of money!

    Response from Tin Leg

    Hi Robert

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand your frustration and apologize for the lengthy experience you received throughout the claims process.

I have spoken with our claims team regarding your claim. In order for Missed Connection coverage to apply, your flight must be delayed by at least 3 hours. Unfortunately, because your flight delay did not reach 3 hours, this coverage is not available.

I apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome.

I had posted the incorrect dates for travel and Tin Leg was able to correct it very easily and sent me an updated policy. I would do business with SquareMouth and Tin Leg in the future and would recommend both to fellow travelers.

I am very upset that I have to wait a month to have a phone appointment with a customer service person to file my claim. I have all the receipts and they could have been easily filed as I am done with other insurance plans in the past. This makes me reluctant to consider using Tin Leg in the future. It seems like a pretty stupid system that's just designed to put off paying out for a longer period of time.

We had some initial push back from the insurance carrier concerning paying the claim. After we submitted numerous pages of documentation they requested some extra information from an urgent care that was not available. We had to escalate our claim before they paid us. We canceled our trip and made a claim because we contracted covid. Filing a legitimate claim should not be so difficult.

I had to call customer service to fix a problem that was my fault. They straightened it out in a quick and courteous manner.

Too bad i couldn't find a hotel room when flight delayed
for approximately 13 hours. Not a good night in airport. I should have asked you if you have a service to help.locate hotel rooms.

I contacted TinLeg to file a claim because my flight was canceled. As a result of the cancelation, I was stranded at the airport in another country and I missed my connecting flight. The airline did not offer food or hotel vouchers. I did not have additional funds to pay for a hotel because they were extremely expensive so I slept at the airport. Tinleg said they were unable to do anything for me without receipts. My mental anguish and suffering is not enough for a claim. I will not be purchasing travel insurance ever again.
