Tin Leg customers praise the provider’s customer service, especially when making changes to their coverage or trip details. However, some have expressed frustration with the claims process, particularly regarding the amount of documentation required.
I have not heard back on my claim. This should have been taken care of rather quickly.
I was fortunate that I did not need my SqaureMouth/TinLeg Insurance. However after buying the policy I did see the many complaints from policy holders trying to make claims. Perhaps this is typical of Travel Insurance policies; in any case it eroded my sense of well being. Next time I think I will stick with Travel Guard.
Our 11-day cruise was interrupted on day 5 due to a death in the family. Tin Leg emailed claim documents and after we sent the forms and all the receipts, death notice, etc. back, we had our checks in about 2 weeks, no further questions asked. I felt that the service was very quick and we had no difficulties with refunds whatsoever. I highly recommend this travel insurance company.
Window shopping, chatting w/customer service, and purchasing travel insurance on-line thru squaremouth.com's is hands down 5 star, however, that's just part of the experience.
I'm pleased to report a very satisfactory experience in faxing a CLAIM for reimbursement for a simple medical office visit on board a cruise ship to Seven Corners/American Modern Home Insurance against a Tin Leg-Standard policy purchased. Seven Corner's Medical Release paragraph is way over-****, and I adjusted that Release to suit the particulars of my claim. Settlement check was rec'd 13 days after fax submission. Very easy and they paid exactly as expected.
I chose this policy in large part because of the medical coverage. Our medicare coverage does not apply when we are out of the country.
Since I have no claim, it is difficult to rate the policy. Only when you make a claim can you make a judgment on the policy.
There was some confusion about upgrading my policy over time, but we got it figured out.
I purchased trip insurance through Squaremouth because I used them on a previous trip, and I found insurance that was less expensive with better coverage than the insurance offered by my tour company. I found the process to be easy. Unfortunately, my wife was hospitalized 3 days before we were scheduled to depart, so I filed a claim. The Tin Leg web site explained the process well, and filing the claim was not particularly difficult because I had only two expenses to claim for -- the tour company's and the air ticket agency. Once I documented the claim properly and submitted it, I received full payment within a few weeks.
1. We planned our trip to East Africa before the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. I called customer service in October 2014 and asked if the policy would be in effect if the US State Dept issued a travel advisory for Tanzania. I called and spoke immediately with an agent. I was told that the policy would cover that possibility. Fortunately, Ebola is not an issue in Tanzania and our trip went without a hitch.
2. In 2012 we had a trip planned to Asia. Shortly before our departure, a health issue led to cancellation. After I submitted documentation, the policy quickly covered travel expenses in full according to the policy.
I am pleased with service and have continued to use it.
Excellent trip no claims necessary
Recently, prior to making a Tin Leg claim I recommended it to two couples who have purchased policies. Over nearly two years I have suggested that people look at Squaremouth. Several have and ended up buying policies.
Depending on the outcome of our claim will determine whether I would make further recommendations.
My initial contact with Tin Leg learning how to file a claim has been positive. Our claim is due to illness forcing us to cancel Myanmar trip. Wait and see.

I submitted a claim on March 16th and received a response from Tin Leg on March 27th. I am very pleased with their rapid response. I am receiving checks covering our Myanmar tour interruption due to illness.
They have asked for additional documentation for the rebooking of our flight from Sinagpore to come San Francisco early. I am waiting their response.
I greatly appreciate that Squaremouth contacted me asking initially whether I was submitting a claim then following up to see if Tin Leg is fulfilling terms of the travel policy.
I have referred three other couples to Tin Leg and Squaremouth.
Thank you.
