Travelex customers often praise the helpful and easily accessible customer service. However, some travelers feel the provider could offer more updates during the claims process, and that reimbursements can take longer than expected.
I developed COVID shortly before my scheduled trip departure and had to cancel a nonrefundable trip. I reached out via telephone to initiate a claim. Had I not spoken directly to a representative as soon as I became ill, I would not have known of the requirement to have a COVID test performed at a testing facility since that detail was not mentioned anywhere, and I would not have had an official test result since I tested positive at home. In the current status of the pandemic, requiring a facility test vs home test is asking a lot. It was hard to find a site to get it done and I was quite sick and had no one to assist me. I was exposed to a lot of sick people coughing a lot during the hours' long wait to get the test, which made no change to my care. Perhaps a rethinking of policies and an upfront notification that if claim is due to COVID, an official test result is required, might be in order.

Overall quite smooth. My only issue is that I had to cancel because I caught COVID. When I called to initiate the claim, and in the paperwork I received, it was not clear that I needed a test result from an independent lab (as opposed to my at home test). Had this not become clear during my discussion, I would never have gotten the test and my claim would likely have been denied. This bit of information needs to be made much clearer as most folks only do at home tests, unless hospitalized.
Thank you for reaching out to us Squaremouth.com. Travelex Insurance Services (“Travelex Insurance”) makes every effort to review all concerns.
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (“BHSIC”) is the underwriter and claim administrator for the policy you purchased. Travelex Insurance does not make claim determinations. The Travel Select policy you purchased does state for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Medical claim types, all must be certified by a physician.
It is important to remember that insurance is highly regulated, and all claims are determined based on the required documentation submitted and the policy details for the policy you purchased. However, we have provided your recommendation to BHSIC for consideration.
Thank you again for reaching out to us.
Sincerely,
Travelex Insurance Services, Inc.
Smooth, easy and no questions asked with foreign currency receipt claim.
Called to increase our trip coverage. Process was simple, I paid an additional fee for the increased coverage and went on my trip
Policy would be more helpful if there were a clear descriptive summary of what documents are required and why when filing a claim. Also, it would have been useful to know that you require a medical document signed by physician specifying diagnosis. This is difficult to get in an Emergeny Room visit.
Lots of paperwork required to submit a claim. I did everything as required. The claim has been partially paid. I called and sent an email to remind them about other receipts that had been submitted, which were apparently overlooked. So far no answer.

Eventually I received what I thought I was due for the delayed baggage claim. The process was very cumbersome and time-consuming. It took me a while to figure out how to submit the claim online. Then I had to fill out detailed forms, upload receipts, and wait for a response. Eventually I got an automated email saying they had processed a small amount and deposited it in my PayPal. I realized they had not processed the two biggest receipts so I had to contact them again. I called the provided phone number and after being on hold for some time, the person who answered was no help and told me to email them instead. I sent the email, attached the other receipts again, and eventually got an automated message that they had been processed. It was a lot of work for a $325 claims payment.
The experience was streamlined and simple and I really felt the staff actually cared about us and our health and wellbeing. I will definitely be using them again.
We had to cancel our trip when my husband was injured and unable to travel. The customer service rep for the insurance was pleasant, helpful and competent. She explained the claim process clearly and emailed the required forms and instructions. The instructions provided a clear, bullet point list of the required documentation and the form was straightforward. The company communicated by email, acknowledging receipt of our claim and then receipt of the documents, setting a 15 day review period. Our claim was actually paid in 10 days.
It remains to be seen, because we have a pending claim for delayed luggage, but this is the best insurance company we have contracted for through Squaremouth and plan to use them in the future. They were in frequent contact before the trip and have an app to download, and followed up after the trip and even provided a link to file a claim, which made the process very easy. Also, we have always had great experiences with Squaremouth.
We had to alter the dates of our trip and insurance prior to traveling. It was easy to make the adjustment.
On 05/17/2023, my suitcase was stolen while on the train from Brussels to Amsterdam. I intend to file a claim when I have all of my costs to replace the items stolen. When I returned home I contacted Travelex and they were very helpful.
