Detour customers highlight the provider’s efficient claims process, with some getting claims settled faster than expected. Other travelers, however, report frustrations at the amount of supporting documentation requested when submitting a claim.
Submitted a claim for forfeited tour services (airport transfer and hotel stay in Iceland, and one nights local costs at airport) due to flight cancelation.
Detour requested receipts for all claimed expenses. My tour operator provided a letter that showed the total cost of the forfeited services and I had receipts for all US related expenses. Thankfully my tour operator (Nordic Visitor) was very responsive and understanding of the situation.
Detour paid the claim in full within two-weeks of submitting the claim.
We appreciated the ‘affordability’ of your insurance. We are thankful we didn’t need it; but, glad to have had it in case we did.
Price was quite reasonable and agents were easy to work with.
Very easy to understand the coverage and by far reasonably priced !
Got COVID on my trip, spent it locked up in my room. Still sick, have filed claim but not done paperwork.

Detour was amazing! Insurer was not the easiest to deal with. Kept changing required documents on the fly. Finally settled my half of the claim after I appealed their results. Hopefully our second claim goes more smoothly as they required a separate policy and claim for my travel partner. The insurers did link the claims so documents can be shared.
Our flight was cancelled due to the flight crew not showing up and was rescheduled 15 hours later on another airline. We missed one night of our prepaid hotel stay so when I came home, I filed a claim with Detour for the one night of hotel charges. My check came about a week and a half later. I was satisfied with the speed that my claim was settled. The delay was a major inconvenience but there is nothing I can claim for that.
Cruise was cancelled within a couple of days after purchasing the insurance. The cruise company immediately gave us our money back and my insurance policy cost was immediately cancelled without a problem.
There was a 'trip interruption' that caused a cancellation fee on a accommodation. I was not able to be reimbursed for this loss due to the fact that this trip interruption happened before I was on my trip. Why ask when the trip was paid for then? I did assume all expenses were covered. If I didn't go on the trip would it have been reimbursed?
I would warn people about this trip interruption not being covered.
Very dissatisfied with this policy.
Respectfully,
Antonina
Our flight home was cancelled and delayed by two days. I tried to contact Detour via their emergency contact number to extend our medical only policy. Email request was replied stating it would be reviewed in 2-4 days. Two days after returning home, I received an email stating that no changes to the policy could be made once travel began.
When I called Detour and explained my situation, they were ver friendly and professional. They emailed me the claim form. It was easy to fill out. I attached the documentation it required and sent it. Within a few weeks, I received a check for my claim.
