I was very impressed with the whole process: buying the policy online (the price was very competitive), filing the claim online, and receiving prompt payment. I had never needed to file a travel insurance claim before, but I can't imagine that any other company could have handled it better. I will definitely recommend Detour and use them in the future.
I had to jump through hoops to get my claim satisfied. The forms they sent for the doctor to complete did not ask for the info they were requesting. Doctors are not going to give out any more info than what is specifically requested. I have no idea why the claim was finally paid with the second doctor form versus the first. If I were cynical, I would say they were just trying to wear me down. I’m sure there are those who try to defraud insurance companies. Too bad the rest of us have to suffer as a result.

We had to cancel our trip because 3 days before I was a victim of Identification theft. We had all our credit cards stolen as well as credit lines taken out in my name. There was no way that we could have taken our trip because of the action needed to stop any additional fraudulent activity. We needed to file a police report put credit freeze on all credit cards, change bank accounts. Unfortunately our trip insurance doesn’t cover the cancellation when we thought it would. Identification theft is worse than having your house robbed. The only response we got was as too bad, you’re out of luck.
Claim was reviewd fast. They needed additional documentation which was requested promptly and within days after my submisdion it was approved. No issues at all
Our trip was cancelled due to an eye problem emergency. The documentation required was straightforward, with one exception. I needed to provide two different bank statements but the process does not allow you to do that in a single field. I had to use the Other field to attach the second statement.
This did not cause any issues and the claim was processed promptly.
The reason I filed the claim was because my husband was in the hospital and was told he was not permitted to leave the local area. In the meantime shortly after I filed, he was rushed 911; to the hospital again .he was there for 9 days and then sent to a rehab facility. After 8 days at the rehab center, he was rushed yet again, 911, to another hospital and is awaiting an operation. I doubt we will ever see SANDALS again.
Awaiting results of claim - trip cancelled due to medical issue. Airline fully refunded purchases. Yacht and hotel were claimed as they were not refunded.
It gave me peace of mind and provided better coverage than the airline did.
