John Hancock customers praise the provider for their helpful customer service, especially when modifying existing policies. Some customers report slow communication and time-consuming paperwork when filing a claim.
My contact with, Ben, the intake officer was wonderful. He was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He calmly and patiently helped me through the entire process. He answered my questions and informed me of what to expect next in the process. It was explained to me that my policy covered the replacement luggage and the items purchase until my bag was found and delivered to me. Overall, this policy was perfect and I will definitely use it each time I travel.
Today is October 20, 2022. I filed my claim on September 11, 2022 (claim no. 4038142) and I am still waiting to be contacted by Broadspire and given the information and documents necessary to move my claim forward. Repeated calls to their customer service number have resulted in nothing more than polite but obviously scripted replies about how their claims volume is high and that someone will contact me shortly, which doesn't happen. It's a disgrace how poorly Broadspire is performing.
I submitted 3 separate claims for 3 separate policies with this company. All were submitted within the timeframe required with full documentation. They were submitted mid July. Within two weeks (so the end of July) I got emails stating "an agent was assigned" and would reach out if more info was needed. I've sent emails to see what the status is of the different claims and only received a form email back saying: it takes time/short staffed/blah, blah, blah. I
t's been 6-7 weeks since an agent was assigned and at least 8 weeks since I submitted and I've heard nothing and received nothing. I think this is their ploy--wait a long time and people are forced to move on with their life. John Hancock/Seven Corners collects hundreds of dollars but never has to pay out a claim. Truly a frustrating experience.
And while I'm at it, I notice that many of this company's five star reviews are followed with a paragraph explaining how frustrated and angry customers are--that seems misleading. Wonder why that is happening--is Squaremouth intentionally misleading customers or are customers mistakenly hitting five stars? Who knows, but it should be edited.
Made a claim six weeks ago and no response other than that they received all documents.
I have sent all the paperwork to John Hancock and tried to call them (I can never get through on the phone, neither can I get through on the phone to squaremouth). I have sent in paperwork to John Hancock twice now and been waiting 2 months and still no correspondence except emails returned saying they are working on it. It was a very simple claim for a few hundred dollars for a doctors bill.
I am very very disappointed. I will not be using either busineess again unless this is resolved by next week. I encourage you to get involved and follow up with them or I will be seeing assistance through the overseeing body of the insurance corporations.
I bought a policy for myself and my nephews. My nephews lost the email so I had to call and talk to an agent. She was very helpful and called me that evening and sent me the policy number.
Trying to file an claim has been an issue so far. Slow response. So far I can not recommend.
Trip went well with the exception of a delayed flight home. Missed connection but was able to rent a car and drive home. Tried calling but was put on hold. Attempted to file a claim online but found the process tedious, confusing and not worth the effort for such a small amount. Will not be using John Hancock in the future. Should have read the reviews. Great name, poor service.
The experience with John Hancock was good. Since filing our claim, communication with Broadspire has been poor and our uploaded documents have still not been reviewed. The first set was uploaded July 25 and the second August 12. I called around the 18th because the webpage said allow 5-7 working days for review. The gentleman I talked to said he was flagging it for action and it should be taken care of by the 26th. The claims portal still shows none of the documents have been reviewed.

I was reimbursed for the full amount that I claimed, was able to reach a real person with relative ease (sometimes by the call back system), and found the document upload system easy to use. I would have given 5 stars except for a lack of communication regarding how long the process was going to take. I understand that the volume of claims was extremely high due to travel factors this summer. That is not the companies fault. When I uploaded the documents, the website said please allow 5-7 business days for review. That process took nearly 6 weeks. If I had been told up front that claims can take up to 6 weeks to settle due to high volume, I would have rated my experience a 5.
I was pleased with the outcome of receiving a flight refund, however there were too many steps involved in the process and the time it took to resolve this was way too long. Much clearer instructions are needed to indicate the level of documentation needed to complete the process.
