My experience with Nationwide Travel Insurance has been anything but stellar. Our trip was planned for Sept 7. On July 25, I was found to have three broken rods in my back from previous surgeries and would need surgery in August to correct this. We would obviously not be able to go on our trip as planned. I filed a claim with the tour company and with Nationwide on August 2, 2023. It has been 7+ weeks and I have yet to receive my insurance benefits from Nationwide. When the claim was filed, I immediately provided all the documentation requested of me and then provided it a second time when I inquired about the status of my claim. There was no problem accepting my money when I purchased this insurance policy, but there seems to be a big problem paying out the benefits of it. These insurance companies are still using Covid, excessive claims and staff shortages for the delay in payment. This is unacceptable. Time to move on from the excuses. Steer clear from Nationwide, I know I will. Squaremouth should move them to the lowest rating possible.

It took over two months and finally a claim with the New York State's Attorney General's office to get my insurance claim paid. I will not be using Nationwide again for travel insurance.
The process was very easy. We felt confident that should we need to use the policy there would be no problem.

So far it has been very good. They have been very cooperative and I just filed the claim with all of the required paperwork two days ago.
I went on a 8 Day Cruise Sept 2nd to the 10th with Carnival on the Mardi Gras 4 different ports and I felt very secure knowing I had insurance with Nationwide. On the last sea day my (adult) daughter was not feeling well and knowing she was able to go to medical center on the ship to see if everything was ok with her made me feel so secure.She was ok had a Covid Scare but thank god she tested Negative. Going forward I will always choose them for travel insurance hands down. Great service.

A very long time for nationwide to respond over four weeks
We are making a claim due to illness and hospitalization during our trip. We have called their customer service line 3 times. They never answered and we waited on hold for close to three hours total. We will see how much effort this claim requires and if they reimburse us for portions of our trip as they should.
Unfortunately, Nationwide did not communicate with me once my claim was filed to keep me informed of the status of same. I didn’t know it was settled until I received a check in the mail. In the meantime, I filed a complaint with zero complaint which could have been avoided altogether had they let me know the status.
While I was happy with the outcome, communication could be improved.
