I contacted the number on the policy and it was a different company (Insure My Trip). They were able to forward me to Nationwide but I was confused on why they would provide an incorrect phone number on their own documents.
Hello, my vacation got interrupted by sickness. submitting the claim was a little hectic. The electronic version of the submission wasn't working for me. I contacted customer service and was advised to submit manually (on the Word application) which takes more time for submission. The claim submission portal is not user-friendly.

First, I was a little disappointed with the submission. But then it turned out nicely and fast. I appreciate all the associates who processed my claim in a timely and professional manner.
I was delayed by a tropical storm and incurred extra expenses in addition to missing out on some activities I paid for. They handled my claim quickly and efficiently. I had to be very precise in the documentation, but I've made claims before, so it wasn't too burdensome. Might be a little barrier for a first time claimant, but don't hesitate to ask questions. They don't want to have to review your claim multiple times so they will help you be complete in your first submission.
We always purchase travel insurance when traveling outside of the U.S. For a November 2024 trip to Mexico I went to SquareMouth to search for insurance and selected Nationwide Travel Insurance. For the first time in 15+ years of foreign travel we did need to file a claim. Three days before our trip we had to cancel due to my elderly father taking a serious fall, being admitted to the trauma ICU, and ultimately to hospice care where he passed away during what would have been the middle of our trip. Most of our costs were refunded or a credit provided (airfare credit, airport transfer refunded), but the resort policy was a 2 night penalty for canceling less than a week before arrival. I called Nationwide and they provided a claim form to me via email. After submitting the claim they requested additional information (I provided a credit card statement to show the payment/charge for the resort) and then about 2 weeks after I submitted that additional information a check arrived for the amount of the 2 night penalty. So, the travel insurance did what I expected it to do.
I did think your pieces was confusing, but your live customer service was awesome.
We called and spoke to agent with Nationwide as we have questions. It was easy to reach the agent and he was able to answer our questions. We did not file a claim from our trip.
We were booked on a Viking cruise for late November. On Sept 26 our home and all of our possessions were destroyed by hurricane Helene. We had to cancel our cruise as we had no place to live, no clothes to take on a trip, no luggage and we had to deal with this disaster. Viking only refunded 50% of the cruise as we were so close to the sail dater. Nationwide denied our claim as the cancellation was not due to illness. We were under the mistaken impression that trip cancellation insurance covered trip cancellation. We did not know that trip cancellation coverage did not cover trip cancellation. Viking told us if we had purchased insurance through them, we would have received a credit for the full amount for a future cruise, as it is we received nothing. Your sales materials should clearly state that what you sell is sickness insurance, not trip cancellation insurance as it does not cover trip cancellation.
I got Covid while traveling and had to file a claim. I requested to file a claim and they responded quickly with forms for me to fill out. They required a Covid test by a physician which was impossible for me to get as no one would allow me to make an appointment for a test. I reached out to insurance company to help me. They said for me to use the Air Doctor App and after failing to find a doctor to test me I was finally able to get help from a doctor in Spain who did a video appointment and was able to provide documentation. I sent insurance everything they requested and did not hear from them for weeks. When I emailed them they replied within 5 days and told me a check was in the mail for my claim. Check has not arrived yet. Nothing has been received by me about my claim. Crossing fingers the check will come! They said they approved everything I was asking for compensation for, and I am hoping the check will arrive soon.
