Customers generally have positive experiences with Nationwide’s customer service, praising agents for being helpful and easy to reach. However, some note that claims can take longer than expected to process, with delays in response times once a claim is filed.
The assistance I received through customer service was helpful and the online application was easy to follow.
Overall I had a very experience with my claim and working with Nationwide to get it resolved. It took a little longer than I expected, but part of this was on me - I had to wait for my primary medical provider to settle the medical portion of my claim with them before NationWide could finish things up on their end. Once that missing piece was completed, they notified me on March 25 that my claim had been approved, and I received reimbursement checks a week later on April 1.
Overall I would have no reservations about recommending NationWide for travel insurance. One thing I would encourage people to do is to read their policy coverages carefully. On this claim I learned that post-trip medical care was not covered by this travel policy, whereas other policies I’ve taken out did cover it. My fault for not reading the coverages carefully in advance - it was clearly stated in the policy documents from NationWide.
We had to cancel our cruise because of COVID. We looked at the Nationwide confirmation email sent to us and saw it had an online claim portal. The portal was straightforward and easy to upload documents. Nationwide immediately sent an email saying they received the claim. It took them about a week to request one additional document. A couple of weeks after I provided the requested document, final payment was made by check. The claim process was smooth and efficient but I realize that providing a doctor's certificate of a positive COVID test is an evident determination of why we could not take a cruise.
Great experience that helped me to feel comfortable planning my trip.
It was a bit confusing when the claim company asked me to send them the "claim" I made with the airline carrier. I did not know it was needed. So it took extra steps to contact the airline, get a denial letter and then submit that to the insurance. In the end, a fair price was given for replacement of my luggage.
Filed a claim with Nationwide, answered all questions and submitted documentation, then heard nothing. Not sure if they are reviewing or at what stage my claim in procwss, What is the process?

Was accompanying fellow traveller to be her support in running the Tokyo Marathon. She had a knee fracture a week before the trip and could not run the event. After providing medical reports, she submitted her claim to her insurance company. After reviewing her claim and medical records, they reimbursed her the amount of the trip. She authorized me to send her medical records to Nationwide, after their review, they denied my claim. I should have used her insurance company in stead of Nationwide.
we travel 3 times in 2025. how can we cut back expenses in buying travel insurance?
I was happy to be assured with insurance as my husband is a quadriplegic and it was good to sleep easy. Thank you so much.

Too many hoops to jump through. I can’t file a claim for hotel and car costs, because my husband is still sick in Florida. This insurance is not making it easy. I have to wait until I get home. Wouldn’t recommend.
We experienced trip delay due to engine problems and medical emergency it extended our trip 24 hours therefore we will be filing for loss of wages for the Monday we were unable to go to work.
