I missed my connection because of Southwest delays, am I covered?

Last Updated:

If the Southwest delays caused you to miss your connection, you may be covered by your travel insurance policy’s Missed Connection benefit.

To be covered by the Missed Connection benefit, a traveler must experience a delay that lasts a specified amount of time, typically 3, 6, or 12 hours. Once the delay reaches this point, travelers can be reimbursed the additional costs needed to catch up to their trip.

Be sure to call your provider’s 24-Hour Emergency Assistance department to receive personalized help and review your specific policy’s coverage.

According to Southwest Airlines official policy, travelers may also be eligible for delay expenses, such as meals and overnight accommodations, if delays last longer than three hours. See their Refund Policy for more details.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
