As of February 14, 2023, travel medical insurance is no an entry requirement for travelers visiting Fiji. With that said, the Fiji’s tourism board continue to recommend all travelers obtain a policy that includes medical coverage before departing for their trip.
Squaremouth recommends at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage and $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage. Travelers who are going on a cruise may want to consider $100,000 in Emergency Medical and $250,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage because of the increased costs associated with medical care and transportation on a cruise or in remote locations.
Emergency Medical coverage can offer reimbursement for treatment due to an unforeseen illness or injury, including Covid-19. Most policies can cover Covid-19 related medical expenses, but not all. It’s important to read the policy to check for that exclusion.
The Medical Evacuation benefit can provide reimbursement for costs incurred to transport a traveler to the nearest adequate medical facility.
Many travelers visiting Fiji have extensive travel arrangements, high pre-paid trips costs, and non-refundable expenses like airfare, accommodations, tours, inter-island transportation, or excursions. For these travelers, Squaremouth recommends travelers insure all of their prepaid and non-refundable expenses. This will give them a fully comprehensive plan that offers the Trip Cancellation benefit, which can reimburse up to 100% of these insured trip costs if they have to cancel for a covered reason.
Covered reasons typically include an unforeseen illness or injury including contracting Covid-19, inclement weather, or terrorism. These comprehensive policies often include benefits for other common traveler concerns, such as coverage for delayed baggage, a travel delay or a missed connection, or a trip that gets interrupted after the departure.
