Can I cancel my trip to Turkey because of the state of emergency?

Last Updated:

The recently declared state of emergency is not a covered reason to cancel your upcoming trip to Turkey on standard travel insurance policies.

Travel insurance policies list specific covered events to trigger the Trip Cancellation benefit. Unfortunately, a state of emergency is not a listed covered reason on standard policies.

If you no longer want to travel to Turkey because of the current political situation, you would not be covered to cancel your trip unless your policy includes Cancel For Any Reason.

The Cancel For Any Reason benefit may cover you to cancel your trip to Turkey and receive reimbursement for up to 75% of your total trip costs. However, this benefit requires that you cancel at least 2-3 days prior to your departure date.
